Catholic Charities is implementing a 2Gen approach throughout our programs that serve child, youth and families to interrupt the cycle of intergenerational poverty and help our clients achieve self-sufficiency. This 2Gen approach emphasizes serving adults and children simultaneously, and creating strong community-based partnerships to align systems that provide early childhood development, post-secondary and employment pathways, health and wellbeing, economic assets and social capital. The VISTA member will work closely with other members of the 2Gen team to create a solid infrastructure that aligns these systems within our own agency, and engage in outreach efforts to develop strong partnerships with other community-based organizations who can provide additional services to clients. The VISTA member’s primary location will be the St. Mary of Celle Family Strengthening Center. Their work will help build the community center’s capacity to serve the low-income, immigrant communities living in the near west suburbs of Berwyn and Cicero. The VISTA member will help us create a strategic plan that addresses barriers to accessing services, includes policies that promote equity and inclusion, and details working relationships with new and existing partners that will allow us to truly serve whole families. They will also help us develop clear messaging and marketing materials to engage a greater number of potential partners and volunteers, and communicate our vision to key stakeholders who share our desire to do more innovative work within the Berwyn/Cicero communities. Ultimately, we hope this process will help us strategically enhance services and learn how to effectively tell our story to funders who can support our 2Gen efforts and help the Family Strengthening Center achieve long-term financial stability.
