The York Daily Record needs a creative and adventurous journalist eager to explore our community's passion for the great outdoors.

People in York County spend a significant amount of time, energy and money on recreational sports and activities. These enthusiasts tend to fall into two key – and very different – audiences:

The outdoor recreation crowd (think: hunting, fishing, camping, RVing)

Adventurers (think: weekend explorers, millennials looking for something to do, parents wanting kid-friendly outdoor excursions)

The outdoor adventures & healthy lifestyles reporter will dig into the lives and lifestyles of people who prefer to hit the trail rather than the sofa with the goal of connecting people with common interests and helping consumers make better decisions about how to spend their free time and money. You will show readers where to go and what to do, while also keeping up with newsy topics that are important to this audience.

No Sweat York is a cornerstone of this beat, and you will take the lead on this branding effort. That includes engaging with readers on the Facebook page, coordinating and participating in No Sweat in the Park, seeking out other in-person ways to interact with and inspire this mostly female audience.

You will work closely with the audience team to better understand your readers, market your content and grow your audience.

Your watchdog journalism leads to change. Your sources will lead you to previously hidden issues regarding the safety and well-being of your audiences. Your reporting will help set agendas and guide important conversations.

You will develop your own story ideas and drive up highly engaging multimedia news and feature stories. You are the expert on your beat, in command of what and how you cover in the most effective manner, using your newsroom coaches to help with your success.

You will use all media platforms available in the ways that best meet the needs of your readers. Mobile and video will be pre-eminent on this beat, as it targets young people on the go.
