Our Opportunity:

We are currently looking to fill several Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) positions at our Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) programs in Bloomington, Fridley and Minneapolis each serving 14-16 adults with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) at a time. The primary responsibilities of the Mental Health Practitioner are to assist residents in coping with symptoms related to severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) by providing encouragement and support. Other duties include:

  • Demonstrate leadership and sound judgment when representing the IRTS program at Touchstone Mental Health.
  • Establish supportive and motivational relationships with residents; coach residents to utilize coping strategies and complete activities of daily living; assist in the completion of independent living skills; and provide rehabilitative skills training.
  • Observe residents for changes in health symptoms; redirect maladaptive behaviors; perform behavioral management interventions; and de-escalate mental health crises.
  • Perform delegated nursing services, including the administration of medications, as an unlicensed personnel under the direction of the nursing staff.
  • Promote participation in community activities; provide support and prompts that encourage socialization; forward feedback about community activities to Activities and Living Skills Coordinators; and when needed, attend community activities.
  • Support the cleanliness of common areas and bedrooms and complete housekeeping duties.
  • Ensure residents and their guests are following site guidelines to ensure the facility is safe and secure.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, consultants, interns and/or volunteers in the general operations of the IRTS program.
  • Support Touchstone Mental Health’s vision, mission, core values and philosophy.
  • Comply with agency and program protocols, procedures, processes, policies and practices.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and training opportunities; and maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Current available schedules at IRTS Bloomington :

  • Thursday, Friday, Saturday - 10:30 PM to 8:30 AM (awake overnight) (0.75 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • “On Call” – Evening, awake overnight, weekend, and holiday coverage, as needed

Current available schedules at IRTS Fridley :

  • Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday – 10:30 PM to 8:30 AM (awake overnight) (1.0 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • Wednesday through Saturday - 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (0.75 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • Sunday, Monday, Tuesday – 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (0.50 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • Friday and Saturday – 10:30 PM to 8:30 AM (awake overnight) (0.50 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • Saturday and Sunday – 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM, rotating every other weekend (0.50 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • Saturday and Sunday – 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (less than 0.50 FTE)
  • Saturday and Sunday – 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (less than 0.50 FTE)
  • “On Call” – Evening, awake overnight, weekend, and holiday coverage, as needed

Current available schedules at IRTS Minneapolis :

  • Saturday and Sunday – 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM (0.5 FTE, benefit eligible)
  • Saturday and Sunday– 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (less than 0.5 FTE)
  • Saturday and Sunday – 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (less than 0.5 FTE)
  • “On Call” – Weekend, evening, awake overnight, and holiday coverage, as needed

Staff who regularly work more than 20 hours per week will be eligible for all agency benefits, including generous paid vacation, sick and holiday time; a 401(k) plan with an employer match; and a comprehensive insurance program (medical, vision, accident, dental, life, short-term disability and long-term disability). Employee status will be determined by the employee’s availability and desire to work available schedules/shifts.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, awake overnights and weekends.
  • Must be able to communicate with team members in-person and via email, text and Skype.
  • Must meet the requirement of either A, B or C:

A. Holds a bachelor’s degree or has completed at least 30 semester credits or 45 quarter credits in behavioral sciences or related fields; AND:

  • Has completed a practicum or internship that (1) required direct interaction with adults or children served, and (2) focused on behavioral sciences or related fields; OR
  • Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness, substance use disorder, emotional disturbance, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disabilities.

B. Has at least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness, substance use disorder, emotional disturbance, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disabilities.

C. Holds a master’s or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
