What does the Field Service Techs do?
Under the general direction of the Service Director, you will provide technical support and service to Caljan’s North American customers during the complete life-cycle of a machine. As a machine expert, you will provide advice and technical support to the customer while promoting and maintaining an image consistent with Caljan's values towards professionalism and customer service. You will identify problems associated with the operation of the equipment and to provide innovative solutions to make the customer’s operations and processes operate more efficiently and economically. You will also provide application assistance, start-up integration and emergency field service in an environment where broad use of independent judgment, discretion and use of technical skills are required.
Responsibilities include:
- You will install, integrate, repair and troubleshoot machinery of a complex and involved design requiring a high level of technical skill/knowledge.
- You will ensure all established inspection, testing, quality and operating specifications are met.
- You will direct and/or supervise customer’s employees or Caljan contractors during machinery installations and integrations or servicing.
- You will identify and correct hardware or software discrepancies.
- You will maintain positive customer relationships.
- You will identify new product opportunities and make recommendations for product improvements.
- After you review the customer’s part inventory, you will advise the customer of necessary parts that should be included in the customer’s stock.
- You will support Caljan’s Customer Support team by receiving and responding to customers, contractors, Sales and other technical inquiries.
- You will function as a technical resource for the Sales Account Managers and Engineering Design organization (Electrical & Mechanical) to address and resolve inquiries and problems related to installation and integration or repair. You will provide technical support for other departments (Operations, Accounting, Sales, etc.).
- You will prepare accurate and timely trip reports that summarize work performed, status and condition of installed equipment and identify additional equipment and parts opportunities.
- You will comply with all Caljan safety and travel and expense policies as well as safety guidelines.
- You will work with customers and the Customer Support team to resolve warranty, installation, and commissioning issues.
- You will maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on all products sold by Caljan and competitive products.
- You will demonstrate supported products to customers, including training on operations, maintenance, and routine troubleshooting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or Technical Degree in Electro-Mechanical (or similar area of study) and 3+ years of experience in highly skilled technical support of an electro-mechanical product/system OR a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) with equivalent direct job experience.
- Previous experience traveling in a service technician role
- You will have prior mechanical or electrical assembly experience.
- You must hold a current and valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- You must have the ability to travel approximately 75% of the time, including weekends and 5% international travel. You must have access to a major airport.
- You must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 30-50 pounds.
- You must be able to work overtime as required to meet customer deadlines including holidays and weekends if needed.
- You must be able to use a Forklift and be trained to use an overhead crane.
- You will have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree
- Forklift Certified is preferred.
- You will have at least two years’ experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- You will possess and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and customers.
- You will have excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- You will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- You will be able to work independently and make decisions in identifying and troubleshooting and resolving issues.
- This position is part of a job family. Experience will be the determining factor for the position level and compensation.

- You may bend, twist, and reach with your arms.
- You may occasionally lift up to 30-50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required within this job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
