Youth Villages places over 70 interns each summer throughout our Tennessee residential programs and group homes in Memphis or Nashville. Interns serve as assistants to the treatment team for a specific group of youth referred for a variety of behavioral and mental health needs.

The internship is a 10-week, full-time, paid position running from May 28 - August 2, 2019. Interns must be able to commit to work for the duration of the summer. Training will be provided on child development, trauma-informed care, collaborative problem solving, and more before beginning work with our youth. Opportunities are available for both bachelor's and master's level interns.

Interns have the opportunity to participate in weekly consultations as well as fun events and outings throughout the summer!

Bachelor's level interns will work alongside our residential staff on Monday - Friday from approximately 2pm - 10pm.

Master's level interns will work alongside our residential clinical staff on Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5pm.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist youth with the positive development and implementation of individual goals and objectives.
Attend cottage planning meetings and treatment team meetings to convey relevant information to
other staff persons.
Assist in resolving conflicts with residents using problem solving techniques and role playing giving
residents immediate feedback on appropriate and inappropriate behavior to be implemented on an as
needed basis.
Plan and lead recreational activities and participates or instructs youths in games.
Provide a positive role model to residents by participating with residents to embody a healthy and
wholesome approach to life, to develop a sense of community and to maintain a clean and pleasant
Facilitate ongoing group evaluations throughout the day for planned groups, activities and
Work with other staff and residents to develop and implement life skills group goals and content.
Responsible for maintaining a safe program environment through appropriate responses and
Adhere to treatment model and Re-Ed philosophy
Master's level interns also assist with treatment planning and facilitating individual, group, and family therapy alonside licensed clinical staff.

While interns are responsible for their own housing, we are able to connect out-of-town interns with a discounted housing option in Memphis. Due to the small size of our Nashville program, we do not have connections with housing options nearby.

Pursuing Bachelors or Masters Degree in social services field

Must be at minimum entering junior year of college or be 21 years of age.

Experience working with at-risk youth and/or leadership experience strongly preferred.

3 references will be required for candidates selected to move forward in the interview process.
