Full Time Infant Teacher Job Description
Teacher Essential Responsibilities and Qualifying Skills:
1.) Keep at the forefront Families First Vision: “Supporting the whole family by caring for your children.”
This is accomplished by showing: a. respect for, and adherence to the Employee Handbook’s policies and procedures which in turn will support the level of professionalism deemed important to the center administrators to successfully carry out your duties as an early childhood professional representing Families First. b. respect for and adherence to the Department of Human Services rules/regulations which is obtained through reviewing the manuals and obtaining continuing education. c. respect to all parents and guardians as the primary caregiver in their child/children’s lives and keeping them informed through face-to-face communication at drop off/pick up as well on Daily Connect, center newsletters, conferences, etc. d. respect for Families First Core Values—Faith, Family, Fun, Future. The Core Values are carried out through lesson planning, center events, learning through play, and interactions throughout the center.
2. Communicate with classroom staff to build a strong and sustainable team that in turn provides quality and inclusive care for the children.
3. Engage meaningfully with all children. Encourage individual growth on a social level so children learn to self-regulate and become more independent in their learning and interaction with others.
4. Encourage physical development and self-confidence when children are learning new skills. Provide them the tools necessary to accomplish great things. Cheer them on as you offer praise and continued support.
5. Supervise children constantly. Teachers must circulate the classroom and playground continuously to offer support, guidance, encouragement, and involvement in all activities.
6. Maintain control of the children as a group by establishing a consistent rhythm and flow of the classroom. When lesson planning, prepare for transitions, small/large group times, bath rooming, and outdoor times by appointing supporting staff to specific duties. Adhere to a schedule which in turn builds a reassuring sense of systematic routine for the children.

7. As an early childhood professional, prepare for children to be weaned from pacifiers and bottles, transitioned from formula to whole milk, support children with allergies or perhaps special eating habit, respect families in their child’s toilet training efforts. Communicate with and offer support, guidance, or resources for parents whose child is struggling with behavioral issues or may need speech/language support or help in areas of physical development.
8. On a consistent basis, review each day’s function, flow, organization, and educational opportunities.
Evaluate the commitment of your team to uphold Families First Mission: “…dedicated to helping families develop deeper connections by providing the highest quality childcare and support services based on Christian principles.” Make adjustments and improvements where necessary, seek help from the administrators or other classroom teams, and keep moving forward with a dedicated team spirit striving to carry out Families First mission and to support the center’s vision for the whole family.
9. The following are general activities that can vary from classroom to classroom:
- Plan lessons for a variety of large group, small group, and individual activities at least a week in advance
- Assess where children are at developmentally and plan activities to help them in areas that need practice.
- Change diapers and assist children in potty training
- Supervise children closely to reduce injuries
- When injuries occur, record on Brightwheel ASAP, complete requisite forms and talk to parents at pick-up
- Help guide children in their daily learning activities
- Oversee the teacher assistant(s) in the classroom
- Creation and implementation of behavior management system
- Guide social emotional learning and redirection of behaviors as needed.
- Creation of learning centers that encourage student choice and social interaction.
- Daily upkeep and cleansing of equipment and materials.
- Observation and tracking of student abilities and growth.
- Collaboration with staff to ensure care and safety of students and staff.
- Positive communication with Parents or Guardians directly and using the Daily Connect system.
These items include but are not limited to daily activities, food intake, medical needs, medication, daily mood, rest and sleep times, any injuries that may occur, in addition to photos and/or videos throughout the day.
