Job Description

The Proofreader is a valued member of the Editorial Services group and every project team. The Proofreader is responsible for light editing and thorough proofreading review of all content-related activities for assigned projects. We are seeking someone experienced in the pharmaceutical industry, as an understanding of AMA guidelines is important. You should also have experience in digital marketing, as you will need to understand how to read digital assets. Adobe experience is also key, as you will be marking up comments within Adobe pdfs.

You will be onsite for training in Malvern, PA. But, once you are trained, you could work remotely. You would also have the option of working out of our Malvern, PA or Philadelphia, PA offices.

Essential Functions

It is the responsibility of the proofreader to review all content in project deliverables (including presales) assigned for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency. The proofreader will work with the Editorial Manager to help verify that project deliverables not only pass a stringent set of QA testing criteria, but that they also comply with the project’s, client’s, and brand’s objectives, requirements, and standards including branding guidelines.

You will also be responsible for the following:
  • Develop, maintain, and review style guide requirements/resources for product brands
  • Attend all scheduled company and most project team meetings for direction and guidance
  • Document and monitor the resolution of all content issues
  • Determine and communicate risks, milestones, and content QA progress to Project Manager and team members of assigned projects
Required Skills and Experience

  • Exceptional ability to recognize grammatical inconsistencies and sentence structure
  • Proficient in medical or pharmaceutical terminology
  • Must have experience in using standard proofreading marks
  • Solid experience proofreading multimedia and internet/web-based content
  • High degree of attention to detail/accuracy with ability to recognize errors in spelling and punctuation
  • Proven data entry/word processing and annotation skills using Microsoft Word for Windows and Adobe Suite, or equivalent; solid experience with other Microsoft® Office applications
  • Basic knowledge of Web/interactive technologies
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize accordingly to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and people skills to interface with interdepartmental professionals
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Must be self-motivated, work well in a team environment, and have a good work ethic
  • Able to juggle priorities with guidance from manager
  • Overtime often required to meet client deadlines
  • Knowledge of AMA style
Minimum Requirements

  • Must have experience reviewing work electronically as well as marking up documents in electronic format, including PDFs and Word
  • Solid experience proofreading multimedia and internet/web-based content

Minimum Education and Experience
  • BS/BA in journalism or related field required
  • 3-5 years proofreading and copy editing; pharmaceutical industry and agency experience highly desirable
