Since 1969, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) has served as the Department of Defense's (DoD) lead laboratory for medical biological defense research. While its core mission is to protect the warfighter from biological threats, USAMRIID also investigate disease outbreaks and threats to public health. Research conducted at USAMRIID leads to medical solutions—therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics, and information—that benefit both military personnel and civilians. USAMRIID is a subordinate laboratory of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command.
Seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide support research efforts for the Therapeutics Development Center (TDC) and other Molecular and Translational Sciences (MTS).
Assist in the development, execution, and evaluation of high-throughput screening projects for the antibacterial, anti-viral, and anti-toxin therapeutic areas and assist in the development of novel assays/methods for various programs. This includes basic cell culture to support these efforts. Workload is approximately 50 plates per month. Will assist in screening of molecular compound libraries for therapeutic efficacy to support MCM development. May perform screenings of 10-15 libraries per year.
Perform both in vitro and in vivo microbiological experiments designed to evaluate therapeutic compounds for antibacterial/antiviral/antitoxin activity.
Support monthly small animal studies.
Experience with Enzyme Linked immunoassay (ELISA), Western blot, and Mesoscale Discovery based assays.
Perform basic molecular biology techniques to support creation of novel cell or enzymatic based assays for evaluation of MCM.
Assist in the preparation of technical reports, standard operating procedures, and manuscripts relating to their research efforts.
Present research findings at one scientific conference per year. Contractor will present results in written and oral format publicly and internally.
Assess and maintain laboratory supplies in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories. Will assess supplies and ensure supply orders are coordinated with Division resources. Will ensure that all assigned laboratory space is orderly and compliant with all regulatory guidance.
M.S. in a science discipline
3+ years’ experience in the Therapeutics Development and Molecular and Translational
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Require work at the BSL-2, 3 and 4 level, therefore, must maintain enrollment in the BPRP program.
