This position requires a strong commitment to performing regular maintenance on school and administrative buildings and grounds. The ideal candidate will be responsible for checking facilities and equipment, keeping surfaces clean and reporting any issues or opportunities for improvement to the Facilities Manager. We're looking for a highly motivated individual who is dedicated to ensuring the safety of building occupants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for vacuuming, carpet shampooing and spot cleaning where necessary (i.e., spot removal, odor elimination, etc.) throughout assigned buildings.
- Clear trash, dirt and debris from entrances, common areas, corridors, elevators, escalators, stairwells as required. Recyclables are to be collected and deposited in specific areas or containers.
- Properly clean glass and metal surfaces to lift fingerprints, dirt, stains dust, streaks, water marks and spots.
- Use proper equipment to clean exterior grounds, parking lots and sidewalks. Dispose of trash, debris, cigarettes and other foreign items. Empty trash receptacles daily and remove odors, stains, and dirt from the receptacles.
- Effectively clean floors of various types using the appropriate cleaning solutions as stipulated in the contract documents.
- Restrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms must be cleaned and sanitized. Trash must be removed regularly (no less than daily) to prevent overflowing. Dispensers and receptacles should be restocked or emptied as often as necessary to avoid odors, overflow and running out of supplies.
- Fixtures and surfaces are to be cleaned and sanitized – removing dust, spots, soil substances, discoloration, mold, build-up, or excess moisture.
- Washing windows, sills and ledges should be free of dirt, dust, grime, streaks, and moisture. Including interior atrium windows, blinds, and coverings.
- Public areas must be clean, sanitized and free of spillages, food crumbs, spots, soil, trash and discarded items.
- Appliances in the Concession Areas must be clean, sanitized and free of food particles, spills and stains.
- Walls and surfaces above 70 inches shall be cleaned and free of dust, dirt and cobwebs. Glass should be clean and free of streaks.
- Excrement must be removed from all steps, stairs, entrances, sidewalks, landings, balconies, and ledges following established safety rules.
- Routine policing of grounds – interior and exterior – to ensure removal of trash, debris, littler, stains, gum, paper and other discarded material.
- Answer service calls related to custodial or janitorial needs.
- Maintains adequate supplies and equipment. Responsible for care, preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 1 year of experience working as a custodian/janitor.
- Must be fluent in English.
- OSHA training
- Solid written and verbal forms of communication.
- Must be organized and display effective time management skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Employees will work on-site where the job assignment is and can be exposed to all weather conditions. In addition, employees will work alongside all types of equipment and could be exposed to fumes, dust, and particles. Proper PPE is required. The employee is expected to be able to walk, sit, stand, climb stairs/steps, bend, kneel, stoop, have responsible eyesight, range of motion, hearing and feeling in hands and fingers. Employees will at times be required to use hand tools and various pieces of equipment. Noise levels vary and can become very loud. Employees are required to have the physical stamina to perform under these conditions, as well as other conditions not listed here. An approved uniform must be worn daily - complete with company logo and employee name.
