Established in June 2013 following the occurrence of Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee, and Superstorm Sandy, the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR) centralizes recovery and rebuilding efforts in impacted areas of New York State. GOSR aims to address communities’ most urgent needs, while encouraging the identification of innovative and enduring solutions to strengthen the State’s infrastructure and critical systems. Operating under the umbrella of New York Rising, GOSR utilizes approximately $4.4 billion in flexible funding made available by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program to concentrate aid to four main areas—Housing Recovery, Small Business, Community Reconstruction and Infrastructure.

Job Summary:

The Records Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of duties involving the collection, revision, data input and retrieval of program records. Specifically, the Records Assistant organizes and maintains records and files; processes, tracks and stores new file records as they are received; organizes and maintains confidential records and files; ensures completeness and accuracy of records; and monitors status changes. Performs other related duties as required.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare documents for onsite storage and retention
  • Assist in classifying, identifying and routing records
  • Add new material to file records, and create new records as necessary
  • Perform periodic inspections of materials or files in order to ensure correct placement, legibility and proper condition
  • Track materials removed from files in order to ensure that borrowed items are returned
  • Design procedural forms related to filing systems
  • Eliminate outdated or unnecessary materials, destroying them or transferring them to inactive storage in accordance with GOSR records management procedures and retention schedule

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a business environment
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of records management
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint on Office365

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary, Contract

Salary: $43,000.00 to $54,000.00 /year
