Performs a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining medical records to include filing, retrieving and distributing medical records, and maintaining associated logs and records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Record Clerk is responsible for preparation, scanning and the electronic labeling of all patient related documents to the correct outpatient.
Sorts, files and collates medical records information such as admission slips, lab reports and clinical notes into charts in appropriate sequence and in accordance with established procedures.
Responds to requests for medical information by performing duties in accordance with established hospital and departmental policy and state and federal laws.
Scans and enters doctors' orders.
Performs clerical duties, including mail delivery, faxing, copying and scanning.
Ensures the integrity of sensitive information and must strictly uphold patient confidentiality.
Retrieves existing medical records as requested.
High school diploma or equivalent with special interest in business or health related fields.
Must demonstrate initiative and ability to work with physicians and other healthcare providers with cooperation and flexibility to enhance patient care delivery by assuring timely and accurate access to medical records.
Familiarity with the health care environment and medical terminology is an asset.
Must possess superior customer service skills.
