The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) seeks a dynamic and visionary Director of Impact to lead the development and implementation of equity-centered strategies that enhance stakeholder (artist, audience, staff, donor) engagement and cultural initiatives. This role is designed to support BAMs mission of fostering a values-based institutional culture that intentionally promotes care, collaboration, equity and innovation.
This role is pivotal in the development of a new division at BAM, Experience and Impact, and ensuring improved outcomes for artists, audiences, historically excluded communities, and the organization. The Director will support decision-making processes related to programming, resource allocation, and audience development, while advising and holding the institution accountable to its community and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work closely with Chief of Experience and Impact Officer to develop an Impact framework, survey instruments, and other data-collection tools that align with BAMs Strategic Plan and E&Is Theory of Change.

Collaborate with Artistic Programming (Theater, Dance, Music, Film, Education and Community Affairs) to identify and design surveys, focus groups, and other data collection practices to gather insights from artists, audience, participants and other community members.

Participate in Impact Working Group (interdepartmental) and Strategy and Impact Committee (Board of Trustees)

Lead programmatic Impact teams (Theater, Dance, Music, Film, Education and Community Affairs), and support team members in new ways of working and methods of evaluating programming.

Manage collection and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from surveys.

Build partnerships with peer organizations, foundations, government agencies and research institutions.

Collaborate closely with Growth team and senior leadership team to gather relevant data, analyze and interpret audience data and insights, that can inform strategic and programmatic decision making.

Collaborate with institutional giving to secure funding for Impact and Evaluation work.

Routinely present data and findings to BAM staff, Board of Trustees committees, and other relevant stakeholders

Facilitate discussions and convenings around key learnings and insights and contribute to the development of BAMs culture of learning.

BA in social science or related field.

Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

5-7 years impact and evaluation experience including audience research and impact measurement projects, data collection for ticketed and non-ticketed programs

Proven experience in impact evaluation and market research, preferably within the performing arts, cultural sector.

Prior experience in developing survey instruments and data collection systems

Strong understanding of and passionate about equity, inclusion and social justice in the arts

Exceptional facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation: The salary for this position is $125,000 per year. This position is full-time, exempt, and eligible for benefits.
