Under the direction of the Scientific Investigator or , Principle Investigator or, SCA provides the research, operational and clerical support necessary for the operation of the MedStar Research Institute research efforts and in return gains experience in the conduct of research.
Currently enrolled in an applicable college program.
Prior experience in a hospital or medical setting preferred. Prior experience asresearch or clinical intern preferred.
No special certification, registration or licensure required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to analyze budgets and financialreports. Familiarity with financial accounting systems. Intermediate to advancedExcel skill level.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres todepartment policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies withgovernmental and accreditation regulations.
Under the direction of assigned Principle Investigator, works on research projects. May involveentering, reviewing, summarizing clinical data in accordance with regulations, HIPAA, IRB andfederal standards for clinical research.
Completes all research related training, including CITI and any other training identified by the SCAor PI.
Other possible activities: Assists in maintenance of inpatient and outpatient medical records and/orresearch records, both hard copy and electronic; Responds to telephone inquiries from patients,family members, researchers, collaborators, other hospital departments, vendors, etc., and directsquestions to the appropriate personnel; Assists staff with coordination of quality assurance activitieswith pertinent regulatory bodies; Reviews protocols, consent documents and other regulatory filesfor consistency; Facilitates the protocol updates, amendments and other documentation; Assistswith the design, development, and maintenance of protocols or databases; Under the direction ofMedStar Health Research Institute manager, organizes/coordinates process of unified database withdata entry from various sources including manual entry, clinical laboratory download, otherdatabases, etc; Participates in the analysis of data, presentation of results and publication of resultsin peer reviewed journals.
Organizes and interacts with various clinical and research staff.
Consistently demonstrates support for compliance in the performance of job duties andresponsibilities by a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions incompliance with rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; b) maintainingknowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MedStar HealthResearch Institute policies and procedures; and c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriateand timely manner.
Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital incommunity outreach efforts.
Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Performs other duties as assigned.
