The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) manages the exploration and development of the nation's offshore resources. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), Office of Resource Evaluation, Reserves Section, Reservoir Analysis Unit in Jefferson, Louisiana.
The Reservoir Analysis Unit has the regulatory responsibility of monitoring oil and gas production to ensure the prevention of waste and the maximization of ultimate recovery of reservoirs through geological, geophysical, and engineering investigative studies.
At the GS-07 performance level, the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Receives training in performing geological investigations to determine structure and stratigraphic conditions of the subsurface Gulf of Mexico OCS.
Works in a team environment with engineers, geologists, geophysicists, and other technical and supervisory personnel for evaluating subsurface reservoirs.
Performs geological reviews for reclassification of reservoirs according to sensitivity.
Correlates and performs hydrocarbon analyses on various types of well logs, with assistance of staff personnel.
Interpretation of geological stratigraphy and structures.
With assistance of staff personnel, conducts geological and geophysical analysis for the purpose of evaluating deepwater development projects associated with Conservation Information Documents.
Conducts analysis and interpretations of geoscientific data using personal computers, computer work stations, and corporate databases.
Prepares reports, exhibits, and participates in presentations.
This position is eligible for conversion to the competitive service upon completion of the Pathways Intern Program requirements. Upon conversion the full performance level of this position is GS-12. Conversion to the competitive service is not guaranteed; it is at the discretion of management. Additionally, promotions to the next grade level are not guaranteed; they are at the discretion of management.
Salary Range Information:
GS-05 $33,394-$50,801; GS-07 $45,972-$62,922
First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level.

This is an opportunity under the Internship Program component of the Pathways Program.
