Title: Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success, University of Washington Bothell (INTERNAL UW CANDIDATES ONLY)
The University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) invites applications from existing UW full-time faculty members for the position Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success (AVCSS). Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and contribute as a member of the leadership team that advises the VCAA on campus-wide academic strategy and policy. The AVCSS sustains a coherent vision for students’ curricular success, coordinates strategic and effective policies that support this vision, and implements best practices in partnership with the Deans, the Offices of Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, and Institutional Research, and other institutional leaders.
This position is a 1.0 FTE faculty administrative appointment on a 12-month basis. The initial appointment term is five years with an opportunity for renewal. Compensation includes three months of summer salary and an administrative supplement that starts at $500 per month and increases to $1000 per month if successfully reviewed and renewed for another term five-year term. Expected start date is July 1, 2020.

The AVCSS is responsible for cultivating a climate of equity that champions inclusion and cultural humility. This includes serving as a champion for diversity in all aspects of UW Bothell’s work, including staff and student recruitment and retention. This work occurs in consultation and collaboration with the UW Bothell’s Office for Diversity and Equity.
The AVCSS will use an intentional and integrated approach to foster student belonging, retention, graduation, and post-graduation success throughout the undergraduate and graduate experience with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. While the AVCSS has a broad portfolio, specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Lead the pre-major and pre-health advising teams, the first-year/pre-major curricula team, the student success initiatives team, the academic learning centers, and others as needed.
Lead the Discovery Core (and other cross-campus curricula as they are developed), a seminar sequence that enables first-year students and others to engage in a process of integrated learning among multiple disciplines while getting oriented to the campus and their peers;
Lead the coordination of graduate programs and graduate students across the campus;
Promote a culture of continuously striving to advance student success where the status quo is unacceptable. This includes ongoing development and submission of institution-wide grants and other external/internal funding opportunities that advance student success efforts;
Oversee the associated budget and demonstrate a thorough understanding of budgets and financial management in higher education
Foster professional development for staff, build a collaborative team, and manage performance;
Co-lead several Academic Affairs advisory councils to ensure active collaboration across campus;
Co-lead the Academic Oversight Committee with the chair of the elected faculty council;
Serve as Academic Affairs designee to respond to formal pre-major students' concerns; and
Represent UW Bothell in tri-campus undergraduate learning initiatives.
Ph.D., or equivalent terminal degree;
A current full-time UW faculty appointment at either the rank of associate professor and above, or senior lecturer and above;
Demonstrated commitment to student success;
Clearly articulated knowledge and ability to implement best practices around student belonging, retention, graduation, and post-graduation success;
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain collaborative and confidential relationships;
Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated success with project management;
5-7 years of experience directly related to the job requirements listed below; and
Willingness to commit to the position for a minimum of five years, subject to annual evaluation.

Facilitating cross-campus conversations and action;
Analyzing data and information from diverse sources to inform strategic decisions;
