HDR has an opening for a Northwest Hydropower Practice Leader (Leader) to join our team. Primary responsibilities for this position include leading our regional Hydropower business development activities and directing the NW Hydropower team. This position requires a combination of business development and operations duties and covers a large geographic area (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska).
Business development duties include hydropower client management, marketing, and strategic planning activities. The Leader will develop an updated hydropower market analysis/plan and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the plan. The Leader will work closely with the Northwest Business Group Operations and Power Sector leadership on all business development activities including participating in all proposals (proposal champion, writer, reviewer etc.). Participation and leadership in the hydropower industry including the NW Hydropower Association, National Hydropower Association and Hydropower Foundation is encouraged. The Leader will work with other leaders to develop stronger brand recognition in the region.
Operations duties include leading the NW hydropower regulatory and engineering teams. Leader will develop relationships across local operations as well as the Power Sector to develop a high performing team. Determine growth opportunities for the NW hydropower team and develop an associated multi-year hiring plan. Collaborate with Area leadership and Hydropower Technical Leadership to utilize and leverage existing staff while also developing hiring plans for strategic growth. To maintain and improve client satisfaction, the Leader will support oversight on project execution including participation in project reviews and selection of Principals-In–Charge (PIC) for projects and will also conduct client check-in meetings. Where appropriate, serve as project manager or PIC to maintain a strong connection in the industry.
Depending on the successful candidate’s experience, business development support in geographic regions outside of the Pacific Northwest Region may be identified in collaboration with the National Hydropower Practice Leader.
Recognized leader within the hydropower industry with an emphasis on the NW.
Established relationships with existing and potential clients at the decision making level in the NW is highly desired.
Solid business development skills, demonstrated ability to relate well to clients.
Comprehensive understanding of the hydropower industry, including the industry’s engineering and regulatory disciplines.
Demonstrated consulting business or professional services operations experience, including managing multi-discipline hydropower staff.
Strong understanding of successful project execution including quality management and client satisfaction
Solid business acumen skills and ability to navigate within a matrix organization.
Excellent communications skills and ability to collaborate internally.
Experience on hydropower association boards and committees highly desired.
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Engineering, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences or other relevant degree.
15+ years of relevant hydropower industry experience is preferred.
