In this role, you will support analytical requests from our operating facilities, and drive analytical strategy through consensus building with associated stakeholders. You will need to be able to interface with the business team to aid in requests, champion and influence analytical strategy.

The position requires approximately 25% travel throughout the Americas region.

You will have overarching responsibilities that include:
Process analytical instrumentation across Air Products’ Steam Methane Reformers (SMRs), Hydrogen/ Carbon Monoxide production units (HyCO) and Generated Gases facilities in the Americas.
Promotion and maintenance of responsibilities related to safety at Air Products in every facet of the assignment.
Provision of technical expertise, mentoring and direction for the Operations and Global Engineering and Manufacturing (GEM) teams in analytical technology identification, testing, instrumentation design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and obsolescence planning.

The incumbent is expected to:
Define analytical technology selection, sample conditioning system design, installation and maintenance for the analytical projects team.
Work with analytical instrumentation vendors on identifying appropriate analytical instrumentation for operating facilities. Influence analytical design that conforms to Air Products specifications.
Work with the process engineering team to optimize plant processes.
Work with the quality team to enable vetting of suppliers, external labs and analytical service providers. Help with issues on product quality and define analytical efforts that help define products suited for specific customer needs.
Test and deploy cutting edge analytical technologies that have low total cost of ownership. Influence GEM team on selection and design of analytical systems.
Provide periodic interface with the materials management team to define sparing philosophy for new and existing facilities.
Provide input in creation of an operations analytical standard
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with key customers internal and external to Air Products as well as be able to work in multi-functional teams across the Americas.
Lead analytical efforts and must demonstrate a commitment to safety, diversity and inclusion, and integrity.
Demonstrate compliance with company policies and following company work processes, particularly with regards to documenting work.

Position Requirements:
B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related scientific field. Relevant industry experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. A graduate degree is preferred.
5 years of experience in industrial gases is preferred.
Possess an excellent understanding of chemistry, fundamental principles of process analytical instrumentation and associated systems.
Excellent organizational, written and verbal English communication and strong interpersonal skills are essential for success in the position.
Laboratory skills are a plus.
Experience in continuous gas analysis (trace and bulk), background in spectroscopy, gas chromatography, electrochemical analysis and related methods development.
Prior experience with ABB, Siemens, Servomex process analytical instrumentation is preferred.
Thorough understanding and experience in design and troubleshooting of sample conditioning systems used in individual instruments and automated analytical systems.
Experience with process control systems and understanding of plant operations.
