AEI seeks a full-time research assistant to support its defense scholars.
The major responsibilities of this position include conducting research and writing and editing scholarship related to US national security policy and defense planning. Additional duties include organizing public events and conferences, managing grant projects, fielding media requests, and providing general administrative support to AEI’s defense scholars. Equally important responsibilities include ensuring effective communication across different departments at AEI.
The ideal candidate will possess a stellar academic record, strong professional demeanor, and a demonstrated interest in US national security policy. Excellent research, writing, communication, and organizational skills are required. In addition to a keen understanding of current dilemmas facing the US Defense Department — both domestic and international — the candidate should also be comfortable analyzing key trends within the geopolitical environment and emerging national security threats. Experience conducting research related to US defense planning is strongly preferred. Familiarity with force-sizing constructs, concepts of operation, and force structure is considered a plus, as is a demonstrated interest in US, European, and world history.
AEI offers a stimulating and harmonious work environment and excellent benefits. Qualified applicants should submit an online application, complete with a resume, a cover letter, transcripts, and a 500-word writing sample on a topic related to the position.
