We are looking for a motivated and passionate beginning engineer to join the Platform team of the Policy Compute Engine (PCE), the central brain of Illumio’s Adaptive Security Platform product. Our Platform team is growing and owns the core of the Policy Compute Engine. This covers platform frameworks and infrastructure for our service-oriented architecture. The key aspects include cluster management, high availability, caching and persistence layers, API support, background jobs, reporting infrastructure, authentication and authorization, and more. We focus on the important aspects of scale and performance of the system to meet the demands of our customers. This includes system responsiveness and performance while maintaining active connections to tens of thousands of managed servers. We also build features that the rest of the product relies upon, such as workload lifecycle management, security policy authoring & delivery, and interactions with Illumio-managed servers (VENs).
At Illumio, we design systems and write code that runs both in our own multi-tenant cloud service and in customer data centers around the world. As an engineer in the Platform team, we expect you to have a broad system understanding and work with new components as required. We are looking for someone with a good understanding of database fundamentals (experience with PostgreSQL is a bonus), distributed systems and RESTful APIs. We seek a self-driven engineer who wants to be hands-on, deliver infrastructure and product features. We see you eventually becoming an owner and expert in various parts of the codebase, both, before and after releases. We want you to move the product forward, and embody our ‘Customers First’ philosophy. Under the guidance of a senior member of the team, we want you to grow into an engineer who asks the right questions, articulates design trade-offs and proposes solutions. We are looking for the ability and desire to learn, and the willingness to collaborate with peers and leaders in our organization.
We write unit and integration tests before we hand off our high-quality code to QA. And we’re kept honest by a world-class QA team who’ll let us know if it isn’t. We use a variety of open source technologies in our platform including Active Record, HAProxy, Memcached, Redis and Consul. As we move forward with our roadmap, we are looking for someone who can work with these technologies and build upon them, as well as suggest and lead us towards new technologies as required.
We are a start-up with tight deadlines, and a dynamic, challenging environment. Our guiding philosophy as we grow is to focus, ship high quality products while having fun, and practice disciplined engineering. Qualifications
