Position Description
What does a great SQL Database Analyst do?

The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible to keep the PCLender Loan Origination System (LOS) database up and running smoothly 24/7. The goal is to provide a seamless flow of information throughout the company, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. Manage/analyze/refine existing databases architecture for the PCLender LOS to support high-availability and accessibility for end users, third party integrations and reporting.

Capacity Planning

Responsible for determining and implementing hardware and database configuration necessary to support current and projected load, disaster recovery/business redundancy and high-availability requirements.
Responsible for establishing policies on target alert levels for resource utilizations.
Responsible for planning for and implementation of future versions of SQL Server.
Database Infrastructure Setup and Configuration

Responsible for the installation and configuration of Windows and SQL Server for all database servers in UAT and Production
Responsible for establishing guidelines and best practices on Windows and SQL Server configuration
Customer Replication Management

Responsible for establishing guidelines, policies and best practices for customers wanting replication implemented to their premises
Responsible for working with customers implementing replication or having replication issues
Responsible for providing proactive communication to customers on issues related to or impacting replication
Responsible for providing regular communication to customers on replication performance and latency
Operations Monitoring

Responsible for Implementing monitoring of database servers in UAT and production and identifying resource bottlenecks and for being the change agent for hardware and other upgrades necessary to maintain performance targets
Responsible for handling as a first line respondent on any UAT or production SQL Server issues
Responsible for Identify long running and sub optimal queries and communicating this to development
Responsible for identifying and implementing index tuning and other physical level database optimization opportunities and communicating this to development
Operations Maintenance

Accountable for the regular and timely backups of all critical SQL Server data
Accountable for regular maintenance activities like running DBCC checks, reorganizing/rebuilding indexes to keep them at optimum levels
Accountable for identifying and implementing data compression opportunities at the SQL Server
Responsible for internal regular auditing of SQL Server data with regards to privacy and compliance requirements
Responsible for regular auditing of Windows and SQL Server configuration of database servers in support of security requirements
Responsible for the scheduling and application of Windows and SQL Server updates in accordance with company policies
Release Implementation

Responsible for testing and implementing database patches against UAT
Responsible for implementing database patches on production
Responsible for establishing a roll-out plan for releases with critical patches
Database Design Responsibilities

Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
Lead various large-scale and highly complex data/database management activities, including, but not limited to:
Designing complex logical and physical SQL Server databases
Leading data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning
Developing, implementing, and maintaining automation efficiencies using scripting languages (e.g., T-SQL, PowerShell, etc.)
Recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications, taking into account requirements from internal and external parties.
Implement information security best practices to meet or exceed industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Define, document, and enforce database/operational policies, procedures, controls, data segmentation, and standards.
Install revised/new systems by proposing specifications, requirements, and process flows, recommend optimum access techniques, and coordinate installation process.
Identify, implement, and manage database reporting tools and processes that support design enhancement priorities and production environment stability/issues remediation.
Monitor and maintain database performance while minimizing system downtime.
Perform regular maintenance tasks, patching, and environment analysis, both software and hardware.
Consult with and advise senior management on high impact database solutions and database management strategies.
Develop and maintain implementation guides, support documentation, training collateral, and process documentation.
Support developers, LOS Administrators, and clients through training and problem resolution.
Provide oversight, mentoring, and training to less experienced teammates.
Implement disaster recovery and business continuity planning with a focus on business-critical systems.

Basic qualifications for consideration:
Minimum of 5+ years of expertise in SQL Database Development, including SQL queries, data structures, stored procedures, indexing, etc.
3+ years of experience in backup and recovery, application patching, cloning, maintenance, and within the SQL Server environment
3+ years of database design and administration experience
3+ years of operating structured change management protocols and processes
3+ years of experience in leading and supporting upgrade activities within the SQL Server 2008
3+ years of experience with transactional, merge, and snapshot replication technologies or experience using data sync database tools such as Red Gate, Idera, SentryOne, etc.
3+ years Windows Server experience, including utilization of Active Directory and Windows best practices and concepts as it relates to SQL environments.
Advanced knowledge and experience in T-SQL coding: query writing, stored procedures, triggers and functions.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and trace data related issues throughout the architecture.
Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically.

Preferred qualifications for consideration:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or equivalent (Preferred).
API previous experience is a plus.
