About The Job

This job is a member of the Information Technology Team, within the Information Technology Division. The Release Manager/Sr Release Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities for releasing multiple projects into production utilizing Agile/Scrum and DEVOPS methodologies. The release manager will be setting the overall standard for release management and governance for the team. As such, you need to be able to communicate with management, application teams, and technical operations teams to create an environment where teams understand the shared vision for releases and have clearly defined instructions and expectations outlined.

Specifically, you’ll do the following:
  • Develops and maintains the SCEPTRE release processes and templates, including incorporation of lessons learned from previous releases
  • Oversees the end-to-end management of a release process (project identification, tracking, testing status, and release readiness)
  • Manages risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule, and quality
  • Measures and monitors progress to ensure application releases complete on time, with no unexpected impact to the business and that they meet or exceed expectations
  • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions
  • Informs senior management of exposure to release risk and effectively mitigate it
  • Establishes and documents annual release schedule and incorporates freezes and other factors into the schedule
  • Collaborates effectively and consistently with leadership, key stakeholders, cross functional teams, and core team to enlist project support and facilitate completion of work
  • Conducts Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
  • Leads and coordinates Go-Live activities including the RFC creation, execution of the implementation plans, and checklists

    • For assigned projects:
      • Manages/oversees all aspects of multiple simultaneous fast-paced assigned projects with distributed teams
      • Designs and maintains project vision, project working standards, and agreements
      • Develops project roadmap, release plan, resource allocation, funding request, communication plan, risks and issues management plan, test plan, and defect management plan
      • Manages project scope, budget, project burn charts, presentations to IT/Business, daily standup, agile ceremonies, backlog grooming, and retrospective sessions
      • Implements Agile methodology using Rally and Planview tools
      • Facilitates project meetings (all Agile meetings – Discovery Sessions, Iteration 0, Iteration Planning, Demo & Retrospective, Daily Stand-up, Backlog Grooming); completes project tracking/analysis reports
      • Tracks, updates, and communicates project status in a proactive manner as it relates to project progress, budget/cost, resource utilization, change requests, issues, risks, and risk mitigation plans
      • Interfaces with project stakeholders at all levels of management to ensure project priorities are aligned with business needs and expectations
      • Ensures that appropriate project documentation and deliverables are clearly defined and delivered
      • Mentors and Coaches Agile teams to ensure their adoption and successful use of Agile@American practices
      • Acts as a liaison between business units and 3rd party vendors
      • Uses business analysis techniques for gathering and documenting complex requirements, scoping, interviewing, facilitation, system component design, testing, and implementation
    Qualifications

    Required Qualification
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
    • 3 years of progressive broad-based information systems and business experience
    • 3 years of experience managing and delivering mission-critical, high-availability large and small IT development projects using structured project management and system development methodologies
    • 3 years of release management experience including development and successful execution of software implementation plans in a large scale IT environment.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • 3+ years of experience in agile methods and mindset as an approach to software development
    • 5+ years of progressive broad-based information systems and business experience
    • 5+ years of experience managing and delivering mission-critical, high-availability large and small IT development projects using structured project management and system development methodologies, such as Agile/Scrum
    • 5+ years of release management experience including development and successful execution of software implementation plans in a large scale IT environment.
    • Airline Industry experience
    • Certified Scrum Master or PMP (Project Management Professional) is a plus
    • ITIL v3 certification
    • Demonstrated experience with ITL release management processes
    • Knowledge of SCEPTRE
    • Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring teams while leveraging agile methodologies, with strong focus on continuous improvement and developing self-organizing teams

    • Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups

    • Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as independently
