Under general supervision, The Tissue Recovery Coordinator is responsible for the identification and screening of tissue donors, obtaining consent from the next of kin and for coordinating the surgical recovery, preservation and transportation of donated tissues. The Tissue Recovery Coordinator needs to be familiar with all AATB and FDA standards that apply to tissue donation. The Tissue recovery coordinator is also responsible for all post recovery donor follow up, which includes: disposition of donor body, chart completion/QA maintenance, retrieval of additional patient records as required by the processing facility, family notifications, sharing of all donor information between involved partners, and data entry of all donors and referrals into the Translife data base. It is the duty of the Tissue Recovery Coordinator to order, inventory, inspect, rotate and log all tissue recovery supplies. The Tissue Recovery Coordinator is responsible for any duties as designated by his/her supervisor. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:
At least 2 years experience working as a Surgical Technician or equivalent experience.
Skills and proficiency in all aspects of aseptic technique.
Strong communication skills for the purposes of working with diverse levels of personnel in multiple different health care settings including, donor hospitals, medical examiners offices, Funeral Directors and Emergency Services.
Ability and diplomacy skills to collect all available information required to be able to determine suitability for donation.
Ability to contact families, and in a caring and compassionate manner, explain the donation process and seek consent for donation.
Ability to perform responsibilities according to regulatory guidelines.
Ability to manage time effectively, make appropriate judgements and workg effectively under prolonged hours and sometimes stressful situations.
Tissue Recovery Experience, Certified Surgical Technician or higher (Preferred)
Minimum of a High School Diploma (Preferred)
Quality assurance skills. (Preferred)
Marketing and teaching ability. (Preferred)
PC computer skills. (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Valid Florida Driver’s License, Class D or E, and driving record in accordance with Florida Hospital policy.
Certified Tissue Bank Specialist certification through The American Association of Tissue Banks (Preferred)
Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program
Maintains 24 hours on call responsibility and responds promptly to all donors referrals and pages
Trains and evaluates the performance of the part time recovery staff in the process of tissue recovery.
The TRC may recover donors greater than 300 pounds.
Evaluates potential tissue donor referrals by collecting medical/social information from all available sources and screens all referrals based on TransLife policy or with the appropriate processing facility.
Coordinates, performs and supervises the surgical recovery of all consented tissues in accordance with TransLife policy and nationally accepted standards.
Understands the legal requirements for consent to donation and displays a caring and sensitive manner when approaching family members for consent.
In conjunction with the Organ Procurement Organization and the Marketing Department, plans and participates in hospital visits and a series of educational programs to increase donor rates and donation awareness.
Accurately completes tissue donor charts and updates referral information and donor information in the tissue donor database.
Has a good understanding of all regulatory oversight and strictly adheres to all Translife policies and procedures.
