What you will be doing:
The Prevention, Preparedness, and Response Program is looking for a highly-motivated individual to join our Northern Alaska Region Team. The diversity of the job requires a resourceful candidate who enjoys working independently and as part of a team in reviewing industry oil discharge prevention and contingency plans, managing cleanup of oil and hazardous substance releases, and participating in facility inspections and spill response exercises.

The working environment you can expect:
The individual filling this position will be based in the Anchorage or Fairbanks office and will coordinate closely with Northern Region Team management and staff in other locations. Our team typically travels to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and the North Slope; along the Trans Alaska Pipeline System corridor; and throughout the diverse communities of the Northern Region for spill response, facility inspections, and response exercises.

Environmental Science: Knowledge of the interdisciplinary concepts, principles, theories, and methods of investigating the natural and physical environment, including examination of ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, plant science, zoology, mineralogy, oceanography, limnology, soil science, geology and physical geography, atmospheric, and other related sciences in the protection and improvement of the environment and its resources.

Travel is typically required to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and the North Slope; along the Trans Alaska Pipeline System corridor; and throughout the diverse communities of the Northern Region, with the possibility of statewide emergency response travel. Emergency response travel could happen at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be for periods up to two weeks in duration.

While in the field, you will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment including, when required, a respirator.

Work involves answering the after-hour duty phone on a regular rotation for approximately two weeks per year within the statewide program.
Environmental Program Specialist 1 (Range 14):

Environmental Program Specialist 3 (Range 18):
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the following competencies
