The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a professional who serves as a key field-based scientific partner to healthcare providers and decision-makers, medical professional associations, and internal Almirall colleagues. The MSL will ensure access to current medical and scientific information on company products, therapeutic areas of interest, and investigational compounds or research areas if applicable. The MSL will be responsible for executing key medical strategies to positively impact patients living with acne vulgaris, actinic keratosis, and chronic inflammatory diseases. This position will support our medical affairs strategy in an assigned territory.

Core skill sets/responsibilities:

  • Maintains in-depth scientific knowledge in areas of medical dermatology (especially acne vulgaris, inflammatory skin diseases, and actinic keratosis)
  • Delivers clinical value propositions and engages with decision-maker stakeholders in medical groups, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), and regional payers
  • Identifies and supports potential research expansion projects/collaborations, medical advisors, and educational partnership opportunities
  • Conduct local roundtables and education programs that aim to enhance external experts’ understanding of unmet needs in their geography
  • Serve as a scientific expert at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, and internal meetings. Support field-based cross-functional teams to provide medical expertise in access engagements as needed
  • Reviews and critiques scientific publications to help inform healthcare trends in Dermatology.
  • Collects, analyzes, and communicates information concerning therapeutic area, treatment options, emerging standards of care, and competitive intelligence
  • Addresses medical information inquiries and support pharmacovigilance
  • Provides effective clinical presentations to internal and external audiences and tailors presentations to meet specific audience needs through peer to peer scientific exchange
  • Assesses feasibility and serves as the primary liaison between Almirall and investigator for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) from inception to publication
  • Provides field updates regarding topics of interest for the creation and/or updating of Standard Response Letters
  • Operates at the highest level of Almirall compliance and professional standards. Adherence to compliant behavior is an expectation at Almirall and
  • demonstrated by embracing ethical decision-making practices and guidelines in all aspects of our organization.
  • Conducts on-going training to field sales and other internal personnel as directed
  • Take part in interfacing and management of Specialty Pharmacy access programs


  • Doctorate degree (PharmD, MD, DO in a relevant field preferred) required.
  • 3+ years of Field Medical experience strongly preferred.
  • Post professional degree practice or relevant transferable experience (clinical practice, academic research, regulatory/scientific is preferred
  • Dermatology experience preferred. Prior product launch experience also preferred.
  • Strong-track record of fostering relationships and demonstrated ability to identify national, regional, and local KOLs in Dermatology.
  • Basic business acumen with a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of health economic principles and clinical trials
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative approach to problems solving and able to work effectively in a constantly changing environment

  • Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with other internal departments including regional business units, marketing, sales, medical affairs, and clinical operations
  • Strong time management, and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Valid US Driver’s License and with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 2 years
  • Must reside within the assigned territory
  • Must complete initial training and successfully pass all assessments within 90 days of hire
  • Extensive travel (up to 75%) required, including overnights and some weekends.
