Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations of the facility. The Nursing Supervisor is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for ensuring Nursing Staff, including MHTs, LPNs and others complete direct patient care responsibilities with service excellence and attention to patient safety. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for monitoring ongoing job performance, orientation, education and competency, coaching, counseling and recommendation of corrective action. The Nursing Supervisor must be an excellent communicator, dedicated to the provision of quality nursing care and responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice; for coordinating nursing and training programs. This position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving nursing problems within established policies and practices and is reviewed by the Nurse Manager and Chief Nursing Officer through conferences, reports and observation of results obtained.

The Nursing Supervisor ensures admitting and discharge functions facilitate optimal patient flow and ensures that hospital resources are being used in the most efficient manner. The Nursing Supervisor participates in the process of maintaining medical stability for acute adult patients. The Nursing Supervisor participates in the Nursing Clinical Call/Coverage rotation and will assist in providing coverage for time-off of the Clinical Nurse Managers, Evening Supervisor, and Week-end Supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Experience:

Graduate from an accredited Registered Nurse program required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Currently licensed to practice by the Indiana State Board of Nursing.

A minimum of two (2) years experience as an RN required; two (2) years experience in a psychiatric hospital setting or related professional setting preferred. Experience in supervision preferred.
