Technical Process Optimization Manager – 1802774
This position will lead the Technical Process Optimization Team as a part of NA Corporate Operational Excellence (COE/ON). TPO provides expert engineering and consulting services to the Manufacturing Community. The person is a highly qualified and experienced expert, that leads and facilitates complex plant improvement projects and optimization workshops. This position must stay abreast of world-class process improvement processes and cutting-edge systems to maintain competitive advantage for the NA sites. Must be able to adapt these processes to successfully achieve real-world improvements.
Formula for Success:
Use your Bachelors and/or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and 8 plus years’ experience in Process engineering, Automation and/or Operations Engineering to evaluate & support Process Optimization Ideas for NA Corporate Operational Excellence (COE/ON)
Coach and develop team members to reach their full potential

Motivate and challenge to drive high performance
Collaborate with the global TPO team within Corporate Operational Excellence (COE)
Organize, participate, and lead Process Optimization Workshops
Evaluate Process Optimization Ideas utilizing different process engineering tools such as PIMS, Aspen, etc.
Support process optimization using Smart Manufacturing (BASF 4.0)
Challenge status quo, think about new solution pathways and be confident in defending new ideas to peers and senior leadership
Ingredients for Success:
- Strong project management, client relationship, interpersonal and presentation skills, being able to facilitate and lead a diverse group (e.g. operation managers, operations engineers, technicians, maintenance and I&E personnel, etc.) to work together creatively. Ability to lead multiple projects at once.
Detailed working knowledge of a wide variety of chemical production processes. Strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of unit operations design and sizing calculations, such as (batch) reactors, distillation towers, heat exchangers and extraction systems. Theoretical know-how and practical experience in troubleshooting plant problems and optimizing plant performance. A basic knowledge of plant process control and advanced process control techniques and how they can be applied to monitor, control and / or improve plant performance. Continuing education to identify "state of the art" methodology and tools. · Strong understanding of/ ability to acquire strong understanding of BASF Business Units and Organizational Awareness.
Experience in the use of Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) applications, including AspenPlus. Demonstrated work experience implementing projects in the Refining or Petrochemicals industry. Knowledge of PIMS (ASPEN, InfoPlus21, others). Experience facilitating optimization processes, such as Six Sigma. Experience with Design of Experiments, Material and Information Flow Analysis, Lean Manufacturing, and other optimization tools. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and work within BASF's Ecology, Health and Safety Standards. Knowledge of/ability to learn the BASF project development process.
