JOB SUMMARY
Regulatory Affairs and Compliance is responsible for performing and directing activities involving the Company’s positions on, awareness of, and compliance with, state and federal regulatory requirements. This individual will assist with all regulatory compliance by the company and its affiliated companies.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist with advising business units on compliance with regulations and requirements for the marketing and sale of energy, and transactional and operating rules and guidelines
- Collaborate with legal team to ensure all compliance with regulatory obligations
- Aid to establish and maintain effective relationships with government, regulators, utilities and market participants
- Advise business units on regulatory compliance reporting, monitor and conduct surveillance of compliance processes and transactions, and conduct compliance investigations
- Monitor and participate in regulatory proceedings and governmental matters, and ensure Company compliance with regulations and filings
- Participate in the development of regulatory strategies and policies that support business strategies
- Partner with internal business units to establish an awareness of regulatory activities and developments
- Collaborate in the management, development and articulation of Company positions on pending regulatory matters, and prepare comments, testimony, and other submissions as appropriate
- Maintain thorough understanding of pending state-level regulatory proceedings, rulemakings and other initiatives affecting the Company’s business interests
- Aid Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance with consulting with Executive and operational management on the development of Company positions on regulatory and legislative matters
- Identify and participate in industry associations that may be valuable to the Company
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, Business, or related field required
- Preferred - Advanced degree (MS, MA, MBA, or JD) in Business, Economics, Public Policy, Science, Law or Paralegal Studies Certificate
- 3+ years’ experience in a compliance or regulatory role in the energy industry, specifically dealing with state regulatory commission or other ISO related regulatory matters
- Well-developed relationship management and negotiation skills
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven ability to quickly learn new relevant industry, legal, and regulatory information, and apply knowledge to specific issues or situations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment related to sensitive matters
- Promote and exhibit high ethical standards
- Ability to effectively listen and analyze information
- Work well within a self-directed, team-based environment
- Ability to manage a diverse workload with strict deadlines in a highly autonomous environment
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week
ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
- Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
- Could involve some lifting up to 20 pounds
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time without much movement
- Ability to work in time-sensitive environment with non-flexible deadlines
- All candidates must have the ability to speak, read and write English
