What is the Legal team responsible for?
The Legal team provides practical legal advice and service to the broader organization by reviewing and analyzing the laws and regulations of the legal jurisdictions in which Franklin Templeton operates. Our in-house corporate attorneys interpret these laws and regulations and advise the business on actions required to comply with legal and regulatory obligations. They also guide the business on appropriate courses of action to minimize risk from financial or reputational loss.
What is the Attorney – Investment Management responsible for?
The Attorney – Investment Management, will be part of the team providing legal and regulatory support to the U.S. registered funds and their affiliated and unaffiliated service providers.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of an Attorney – Investment Management?
Serve as a disclosure attorney for open-end registered investment companies. Prepare and file annual updates of prospectus and statements of additional information on Form N-1A and supplements as needed. Review and update Prospectus and SAI disclosures on an ongoing basis.
Advise and counsel investment companies, investment advisers and management teams on issues arising under the Investment Company Act, Investment Advisers Act, Securities Exchange Act, and other federal and state securities laws with respect to the registration, distribution and operations of registered funds.
Prepare and review shareholder reports, proxy statements, fund-related marketing materials, fund board materials, agreements, and legal memoranda.
Support other business initiatives, including product development, launch of new funds and investment products, and other investment management and fund distribution related matters.
Participate in industry advocacy relating to investment management matters.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
JD and license to practice law in the U.S.
4-5 years experience in the investment management area with a law firm and/or global financial services company.
Knowledge and experience with laws and regulations under the Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, Securities Exchange Act and Commodity Exchange Act.
A self-directed individual with a high degree of attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize, and effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other members of the legal team, company management and outside business contacts.
