JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, the Library Clerk I provides exemplary customer service assisting the public with circulation procedures and finding material, and helps maintain the library collection for ease of use. Duties include processing daily shipments from other MetroPac Libraries, organizing material into proper sequence on carts, high volume shelving, checking out patrons, answering phones, handling cash and credit card transactions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Accurately shelve high volume of library material.

Check-out material to patrons using Polaris software, advise patrons of overdue items, process payment of fines using cash register and credit card machine for daily cash reconciliation.

Determine eligibility for Keller resident library cards, identify non-resident users, and explain non-resident policies and options.

Create new patron accounts in Polaris database, issue library cards, update and maintain patron profiles.

Check-in returning materials, sort to bins for courier, and put on carts in order for shelving.

Answer incoming calls and direct callers to the appropriate department.

Assist patrons with online material searches, reserving materials, renewals, explaining library policies, procedures, and billing practices in a courteous, professional manner.

Identify materials in need of replacement or repair, and send to appropriate department.

Contact patrons with discrepancies in returned material, or other problems associated with library material.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
May be required to open and close building on weekends, set alarm, reconcile cash drawer each day.

May be required to deal with irate patrons regarding past due books, fines, lost material, etc.

May be required to assist with library programs and directing volunteers.

May be required to adjust shift schedule due to change in workload or staff.

Must be punctual, arriving at scheduled shifts on time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred: minimum of one (1) year library experience in a public, academic or private library, or three (3) years experience in a customer service role that required active problem solving to a diverse client base.

Data entry and basic computer skills required.

High school diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.

Polaris, Horizon or Dynix experience preferred.

Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically in correct sequential order.

Strong organizational skills, able to readily adapt to assigned tasks, and adhere to departmental policies.

Able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
