Full Job Description
The YMCA of South Florida's Pembroke Pines Family Center is seeking dynamic instructors for a variety of classes. Must be high energy, great with cultivating member relations, and technically sound in order to grow class participation and engagement. Ideal candidate will be a great motivator, always striving to improve the overall fitness levels of our members.
Lead engaging classes that are challenging, yet safe, and able to be modified to fit the needs of the target audience.
Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
Ensure that all necessary equipment is set up for class, and inspect equipment to be sure that it is in safe working order.
Ensure that class starts and ends on time.
Monitor that fitness room is neat and equipment used during a class is returned to its proper location in an organized manner before leaving. Instructors are responsible for providing their own music suitable for a family setting.
Report injuries to Healthy Living Director and / or Executive Director and complete the proper paperwork immediately following any injury. This information must be reported to the Human Resources Department within 24 hours of incident. Serious injuries must be called in to Human Resources immediately.
Ensure that there is a substitute instructor, if you are unable to teach your assigned class.
Partner with Healthy Living Director to develop special events that promote fitness and meet community fitness needs.
Minimum of 1-2 years related fitness experience.
Knowledge of the principles related to the improvement of overall fitness levels.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
Bi-lingual, English and Spanish (fluent in both languages).
People person who likes to interact with members of various ages and stages in life.
Individual who demonstrates compassion and caring for all individuals she/he comes into contact with on a daily basis.
Trend setter on the leading edge of current health and fitness activities who will provide exceptional programs and services to our members.
Certificates and Licenses:
CPR Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current National Certification from one of the following organizations: ASFA, AFAA, ACSM, ACE, ISSA, NETA or AFPA.
In lieu of one of the above listed National Certifications, instructor must complete an approved specialty certification- that includes a practical portion. Such certifications may include, but are not limited to: Les Mills, Mad Dogg, Beach Body, Mossa, Zumba, Yoga Alliance, Pilates, Silver Sneakers, etc.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening.
