## Job Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Treasurer to join our team. Under the direction of the Town Treasurer/Collector, this position is to provide skilled administrative, technical, and bookkeeping work in the receipt, expenditure, and custody of municipal funds as well as in assisting the Treasurer to discharge the duties of the office; all other related work as required.
## Duties
· Receives and accounts for all municipal funds. Oversees cash flow management, planning, and control. Initiates bank wires and issues manual checks as necessary to maintain cash balances and fulfill warrant expenditures. Maintains daily cash sheet with bank balances.
· Manages short-term cash in town bank accounts and maintains ledger of account balances.
· Balances monthly bank statements. Follows up with town and school departments regarding failure to report and record cash activities.
· Completes a variety of reports for the Treasurer. Performs special projects.
· Communicates with various banks daily; verifies bank balances, transfers/wires funds for payment of bills or payroll, requests stop payment on checks, inquires of interest rates, requests copies of deposits, following up on bad checks or other banks charges, adjustments, fees, etc.
· Answers questions from taxpayers, banks, attorneys, employees, and retirees; explains procedures and regulations. Research questions and complaints and works to resolve them.
· Research payments received and records transactions in the appropriate logs.
· Maintains oversight of the departmental expenditures and communicates with the Treasurer/Collector on the payment of invoices.
· Performs all the essential functions of the Treasurer/Collector in his/her absence.
· May be required to work beyond normal office hours and attend occasional evening meetings.
· Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates
## Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field; four years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including Treasury management; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
### Required Skills:
Knowledge: Familiarity with financial and mathematical principles, practices and applications such as time value of money, discounted cash, compounding interest, etc. Complete working knowledge of the principles and practices of financial management and specific knowledge of the legal controls, methods and procedures of municipal finance. Thorough knowledge of computer applications for accounting and financial management. Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and the UMAS. Knowledge of treasury management and investment of public funds.
Ability: Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with town officials and departments, members of the banking community, benefits providers, and all town and school employees. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Ability to establish and maintain complex financial record keeping systems. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions, often under considerable time pressure. Ability to prepare complex financial reports. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Skill: Skill in computers and appropriate software applications. Aptitude for numbers and details. Excellent organizational, planning, and analytical skills.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
