The Dock Worker is responsible, at the direction of the Facilities Manager, for the loading and unloading of Destiny Transportation, Inc (DTI) trailers. This position will also be responsible for utilizing Quality Freight handling techniques to minimize OS&D and cargo claim opportunities.
He or she must provide excellent documentation on what freight was loaded/unloaded/stored on or at any DTI location/trailer. Additionally, the Dock Worker must be flexible to help meet the needs of the terminal operations and its evolving freight volume. The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and clearly communicate issues relevant to the terminal operations
Dock Worker Tasks:
Read, comprehend, and utilize loading manifest to properly load/unload city, line-haul, and peddle run trailers.
Ensure that quality freight handling procedures are followed, such as temperature monitoring, utilizing the proper freight handling tools (pallet jack, electric pallet jack, forklift, extension blades, etc.) to load outbound trailers in an efficient & safe manner.
Experience and/or the ability to learn how to drive a spotter tractor.
Effectively communicate in English (read, write, and verbalize). Spanish speaking is a plus
Previous experience with handling refrigerated freight is a plus, but not mandatory.
Evaluate the performance of managers, drivers, and staff. Previous experience with refrigerated trailers is a plus, but not mandatory.
The ability to lift 50 + pounds repeatedly. The ability to work in a non-temperature controlled environment.
The ability to work a flexible schedule as freight volumes dictate, including but not limited to, weekday nights and possibly Saturday and Sunday.
May perform additional duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
