Providence is calling an Emergency Department Communications Specialist (0.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.

Magnet Medical Center
Large Urban Hospital with 523 Beds
Providence St. Vincent's is a Regional Cardiac and Comprehensive Stroke Center
Separate Adult and Pediatric Units with own Providers, RNs and ED Techs for each unit
53 Bed Adult Unit with 3 Fast Tract Beds - All beds have their own room.
Specific Psychiatric Hold Rooms
Annual Emergency department visits: 75,164
Great Team Environment: True Collaboration between Providers, RNs and ED Tech

In this position, you will:
Be a highly reliable front line contact with all callers to the Emergency Department (ED) Communication Center.
Be a pivotal resource to this fast pace work environment which operates on a 24 hour/7 day basis.
Field all incoming calls in a professional manner and coordinate the proper routing or assistance of that call.
Place ED Physician consult calls and be a key partner in the flow of the emergency department.
Be responsible for accurately and quickly entering patient information, and providing the clinical staff with a brief description of the caller’s request so as to expedite the most appropriate response to the call.
Collect patient information from providers in the community and take notes for ED Providers during provider to provider conference calls.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school diploma equivalent
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, or must obtain within 6 months of hire
2-3 years of experience performing secretarial duties in healthcare, or equivalent training in a recognized healthcare program
2-3 years of experience in Customer Service, including experience with delivering customer services by telephone
Experience working in an environment involving critical thinking and multi-tasking during high volume and high stress
Proficiency in word processing, and experience with a variety of software applications including electronic medical records (e.g. Epic)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor’s degree in communication or other related field
Medical terminology course or experience
Experience working as an Emergency Department (ED) Tech
Working knowledge of call center and multi-line phones
