Commtech is seeking a confident and motivated Telecommunications Field Engineer, experienced in technology and communication systems – how they work, how they are installed, and the completion and repair of these systems. The Field Engineer will spend their time traveling to project sites to conduct field reviews, investigations, and reporting. They will assist with leading construction meetings to provide reports, guidance, and feedback to the project task force.
Commtech Design specializes in the design and specification of structured cabling systems, audio/visual systems, security systems and other Low Voltage (LV) systems and works with many high-profile public and private entities.
Responsibilities include:
- Gain familiarity with the client’s expectations, scope, budget and schedule for assigned tasks
- Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
- Actively collaborate with members of your project task force, client personnel and members of your department
- Coordinate with electrical engineers for systems power requirements
- Conduct field reviews and surveys to verify accuracy of completed design
- Generate site review documents that include pictures, and descriptions of current work
- Interpret architect drawings/specifications, blueprints and construction documents
- Apply all applicable codes including manufacturer instructions
- Produce installation details and room layouts
- Provide on-site assistance and guidance to field workers during start-ups and construction
- Coordinate work activities with other staff members
- Lead construction meetings and generate meeting minutes to be distributed out
- Apply both Commtech and client safety standards in design and everyday activities
Skills & Experience needed:
- Knowledge and application of NFPA 70 (NEC), TIA/EIA standards, and other NFPA codes governing designs
- Knowledge and application of relevant codes and standards such as NEMA, ANSI, BISCI
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and BIM & CAD drafting standards
- Able to route and size raceways, perform fill calculations
- Knowledge of best specification and installation practices
- Able to develop specifications
- Able to create accurate installation documents from information found on vendor equipment drawings and submittals
