The Legal team at eXp Realty is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal who will provide support to the team while working remotely. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, quick thinking, flexible, collaborative, and able to juggle multiple diverse responsibilities with a strong emphasis on organization and an unwavering attention to detail at all times. The Litigation Paralegal works in tandem with the litigation attorneys and other litigation paralegal, participating in all phases of the litigation process, maintaining organized indexed files, conducting document searches and research, and performing other litigation related tasks. This individual will also perform non-litigation based legal tasks for other attorneys and staff members in the legal department when workflow dictates the same. This is a demanding and fast moving position that requires someone who is able to exercise good judgment, takes significant initiative, and possesses the ability to handle an array of confidential matters. This position will work closely with our Legal Department and other internal business partners across the eXp Realty workplace.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with the management of the day-to-day litigation caseload, including managing the retention of outside counsel, legal discovery, data collection, response deadlines, file notes, matter organization, and form document completion, with multiple parties across multiple time zones;
Manage and execute timely delivery of assigned legal tasks and services;
Take legal briefs and notes; prepare correspondence, reports, and datasheets;
Process and manage the litigation workflow and juggle priorities efficiently;
Set up, input, and maintain new electronic files in compliance with the current department policies utilizing the company’s various systems and electronic document software system;
Report claims to insurance carriers with all relevant coverage details;
Assist in gathering information to respond to demand letters, lawsuits, subpoenas, and discovery requests; Assist in review of invoices from outside counsel and vendors;
Responsible for preparing, reviewing, editing, and proofreading legal documents, including composing responses to discovery for litigation under attorney direction by gathering case evidence and documentation, including searching various internal databases and systems;
Enhance attorneys effectiveness by monitoring case progress, alerting attorneys of issues requiring his/her attention, maintaining contact with business units, claims managers, adjusters, local counsel, and opposing counsel, contribute information to the team case review, complete special projects, and provide administrative support;
Assist with maintenance and verification of legal spend tracking and reporting;
Will have a high degree of responsibility for case and claims management and assisting with the implementation of any new processes concerning the same;
Keep business partners informed by maintaining contact; communicating matter progress;
Foster professional, cooperative, and supportive relationships with peers, superiors, and other business units;
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and by reading professional publications;
Accomplishes company and department mission(s) by assisting in and achieving related results as needed; completes other paralegal and administrative tasks delegated by lawyers and paralegals; Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Must have knowledge of various law practices and legal processes and terms, as some of the responsibilities include preparing garnishment and subpoena responses, discovery preparation, and other legal documentation;
Ability to work independently and remotely, as well as to function as part of an effective team is required;
Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills; strong writing skills;
Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments simultaneously;
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of company personnel and a variety of external parties;
Attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to maintain confidential information;
This role is technology-intensive, candidate must possess the ability to work with spreadsheet and accounting programs, Internet-based filing and docket systems, computerized legal research databases, word processing applications, and be adaptable to quickly learn new software. A qualified candidate will be familiar and comfortable with Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office products. Experience with Trello is a plus.
Associate’s Degree or equivalent paralegal studies certification preferred. Work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education requirements.
3+ years law firm or in-house legal department litigation experience, providing support to a team (rather than an individual), experience in a business and legal affairs setting a plus.
