General Description / Primary Purpose
The new dean will work in close concert with faculty, staff, students, external constituents and University leaders to develop, articulate and execute a strategic plan that follows the University’s plan and to generate the resources necessary for its success. Additionally, the new dean will be responsible for student success efforts that reflect a global perspective and a commitment to inter- and multidisciplinary approaches, AACSB accreditation, enrollment, academic program planning, assessment of curriculum and instruction, recruitment and evaluation of faculty and staff, professional development and research support, and sound budgeting and fiscal management.
To this end, candidates with histories of working successfully within the context of shared governance and a collective bargaining agreement are strongly preferred. The dean will possess an earned terminal degree in business or related fields and a strong record of accomplishment in teaching, research and service that merits appointment as a full professor. Candidates possessing significant administrative experience will be advantaged. Above all, the dean will be committed to student success and will possess the necessary skills and personal attributes to inspire the entire Coggin community to aspire to even greater impact on the College’s students and its community.
The dean is responsible for leading and providing oversight for the eight departments and six centers that comprise the College. The dean manages an annual budget of $14.5 million with 76 full-time faculty, 30 adjunct faculty (fall) and 42 staff, serving 2,555 undergraduate and 582 graduate students. The office of the dean includes an associate dean, director and assistant director of development, a coordinator of administrative services, a coordinator of
budgets and a program assistant.
In addition, the dean:
- Is responsible for the effective operation of the College in support of the mission and
goals of the College, the University and the State University System of Florida,
serving as the spokesperson for the College on campus, in the larger community of
scholars, in the regional business community, state and nationally;
- Provides visionary leadership to faculty, staff and administrators to foster academic
excellence of students and faculty;
- Leads and oversees the college’s AACSB re-accreditation process;
- Skillfully engages internal Coggin and University constituencies as well as external
entities within the regional business environment;
- Promotes the evolution of the faculty through faculty support, recruitment,
development, evaluation and promotion;
- Continually enhances the quality of academic programs and the promotion of
excellence in teaching, research and service in cooperation with faculty, staff,
students and community partners;
Is committed to promoting programs and initiatives to support student retention,
completion and overall success;
- Understands, supports and promotes quality research, teaching and service;
- Is adept at engaging diverse students and colleges within and external to the

department chairs, the day-to-day operation of the academic and administrative
affairs of the departments in the College; and
- Is engaged in creating, developing and maintaining relationships with the Northeast
Florida business community and beyond.

Faculty Position Required Qualifications
An earned terminal degree in business or related disciplines is required. Academic accomplishment, including a strong record of teaching, research and service worthy of a current appointment at the rank of professor, is required.
