It’s an exciting time to join our growing Digital Commerce Team! The Sr Director, Digital Merchandising will shape the experience for our retail customers digitally across e-commerce, pickup in store, and same day delivery platforms. Responsible for leading Digital Merchandising, Digital Experience, and Digital Merchandising Operations. Develops and oversees development and execution of digital merchandising strategies. Works cross-functionally to build plans and execute across IT, Product Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain. Collaborates closely with retail merchandising leadership team to help shape a digitally-enabled retail experience for customers in-store or online.
Should have experience managing an ecommerce P&L and working with suppliers to build digital strategies and plans. Additionally, should be comfortable identifying new technology solutions to improve category merchandising tactics and partners with internal and external vendors to implement. Partners with marketing to expand demand generation, content, and personalization efforts for digital channels, in order to drive higher awareness and adoption digitally. Harnesses customer data, web analytics, and insights to optimize and bring to life an elevated end-to-end category experience digitally.
Must be passionate and relentless about customer journeys and user experience. Champions and shapes the role of digital in the organization and customer experience, while ensuring strategies are aligned with enterprise priorities.
Shapes strategic priorities and business development opportunities in the digitally-enabled retail space, including but not limited to site monetization, fulfillment (e.g. auto-reorder, same day delivery, in-store pickup), mobile & voice commerce and in-store technology.
Oversees the planning, developing and implementing of short and long-term financial and marketing plans and budgets that satisfy customer expectations. Ensures sales and profit goals are met for Digital Merchandising.
Determines business investment in Key Value Items/Key Value Categories through pricing-value perception analyses.
Reviews detailed business plan and financial sensitivity analyses for all new product introductions and champions digital-first launch plans.
Responds to downgrades in business and understands levers to effectively respond through pricing and promotional effectiveness in order to increase sales and profit.
Utilizes promotional tools, data insights, and basket data to build more effective promotional programs delivering against profit and sales targets.
Advocates cross-category merchandising opportunities to up-sell/cross-sell customers to increase basket.
Fosters a strategic alliance with strategic and impending suppliers, while encouraging Category Managers to establish relationships with newer/smaller vendors. Involved in negotiations as needed.
Ensures integrated product coordination within the store experience to increase customer count, cross sales and channel-agnostic loyalty and engagement. Acts as an advocate for the company’s brands, while optimizing growth where it aligns to category roles.
Ensures team adheres to guidelines the enforce process process efficiency and collaboration in alignment with the end to end process of product development and product integrity.
Collaborates with cross-functional partners, such as store merchants and store operations, to shape and execute digital strategies to deliver consistent digitally-enabled end-to-end customer experience with product assortment, pricing/promo, checkout and fulfillment. Utilizes key centralized resources such as strategic planning, promotion planning, marketing, to shape and execute digital strategy. Makes necessary tweaks to experience due to nuances of digital, including but not limited to technology enablers, breadth of assortment and role of competitors.
Identifies business development opportunities in the digitally-enabled retail space, including but not limited to site monetization, fulfillment (e.g. auto-reorder, same day delivery, in-store pickup), mobile & voice commerce and in-store technology.
Explores new opportunities, internal/external partnership and technologies to improve enterprise product catalog maintenance and item setup.
Oversees the digital merchandising operations team and accountable for the successful execution of goals related to product catalog maintenance and item setup of products on Walgreens digital assets, including Walgreens.com.
Ensures the ongoing training and development of direct reports. Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of digital merchandising/merchandising operations experience OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 11 years of digital merchandising/merchandising operations experience.
Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, including the executive level.
Experience developing and communicating strategic initiatives that align with business goals and budget.
Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
Experience interacting and influencing others, including the executive level.
At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
Willing to travel up to 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Master’s degree / MBA.
Knowledge of retail technology trends.
Experience influencing financial value levers to maximize net profit (e.g. accounting terms, trade allowance, shrinkage, etc.).
Experience utilizing analytics to manage assortment and reduce SKUs.
Experience lowering product and operational cost through negotiation, planning, loss prevention, etc.
Experience forecasting and course correcting to maintain business performance to plan.
Knowledge of Owned Brands relative to individual categories.
