Ascension Borgess has an exciting opportunity for Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP or Neonatal Physician's Assistants (PA to join a highly skilled, experienced and supportive team serving the Kalamazoo area.
This cohesive team led by a chief of newborn medicine neonatologist and pediatric hospitalists evaluat complex patients requiring the NNP's to utilize their critical thinking skills for optimal management.
This opportunity is open to full time or part time work for candidates willing to be part of a team of NICU infant and well newborn care together with Ascension Borgess’ progressive Women’s Health Center.
The selected NNP/PA will be responsible for providing the assessment, evaluation and treatment of neonates under the guidance of the attending newborn physicians at Ascension Borgess.
Experienced providers and new graduates will be considered to join our seasoned and certified nursing staff as early as possible in 2020.
Detailed Position Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Assess, plan and evaluate newborn medical care under the direction of the attending newborn physician.
Report accurately and concisely in problem-oriented documentation.
Order and interpret laboratory data and radiology as appropriate.
Order appropriate medications, IV therapy, parental nutrition, blood products for newborn admissions, transfers and discharges.
Attend and provide newborn care and stabilization for all deliveries as required including stabilization prior to transport.
Serve as an expert resource to administrative, nursing, and medical staff on newborn protocol
Provide both high risk antenatal and postnatal parental education including the Baby Friendly Initiative and donor breast milk needs.
Initiate and pursue self-development activities through readings, lectures and formal educational programs. Teaching and research opportunities are available through Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine
Participate as appropriate in quality improvement and the formulation, revision and implementation of policies and procedures in family birthing center (consisting of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Labor and Delivery) as appropriate.
Supportive pediatric/parents support programs designed to encourage parental involvement.
Licensed Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant with Neonatal fellowship/experience
State of Michigan License (unrestricted)
Outstanding patient care qualities and interpersonal skills
Providing 24 coverage with coverage with flexible shifts

What You Will Do
As an Associate with Borgess Health-MI, you will have the opportunity to
In collaboration with a physician, provides for the expansion of individualized primary healthcare services by diagnosing and treating certain acute or chronic health conditions.
Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.
Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.

What You Will Need
Certified Advanced Practice Clinical Nurse Specialist obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. This credential is required at start date or job transfer date, however, compliance will be monitored locally by the Medical Staff Office.
Licensed Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. This credential is required at start date or job transfer date, however, compliance will be monitored locally by the Medical Staff Office.
Must be a graduate of a School of Nursing and have completed an approved Nurse Practioner program at start date This credential is required at start date or job transfer date, however, compliance will be monitored locally by the Medical Staff Office and Minimum of three (3) years professional nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred.
