The Managing Director position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced and entrepreneurial family office/wealth management executive with strong strategic business development, leadership and management skills combined with a broad knowledge across the disciplines of wealth management (including finance/accounting, tax, estate planning, investment management, risk management, philanthropy, family governance and education) to establish a successful Family Office Practice for this thriving, high growth public accounting, consulting and investment advisory firm.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success in building a market competitive and profitable wealth management/family office platform and will have the depth of experience and understanding of family office services and operations needed to establish the practice and lead its growth and profitability. This individual will also have excellent client relationship management and advisory skills.
The Managing Director will be responsible for promoting the firm’s presence, brand and market share in Atlanta and the broader Southeast region by leading the execution of marketing and business development strategies to successfully identify, build and enhance relationships with family office clients. This executive will build and lead a team to serve family office clients consistent with BT’s mission, vision, core values and compliance standards while providing the highest level of excellence and client service.
The Board of Directors, Bennett Thrasher Family Office
The Managing Director is responsible to determine the strategic vision, goals and priorities for the family office practice and to design and implement the business plan to support the strategic vision. BTFO will serve as a family office center of excellence and knowledge and the Managing Director will quarterback the delivery of all services to family office clients. This executive is also responsible to clearly and effectively communicate the vision and engage their colleagues from BT and BT Wealth Management. This executive will lead the Family Office Practice, recruit and oversee staff and coordinate the work of internal and external advisors/resources to ensure that all services are delivered to family clients in a high quality, efficient and cost-effective manner to meet client needs and objectives. The Managing Director will also serve as the senior trusted advisor to family office clients.
In alignment with the firm’s vision and goals, develop and implement a strategic business and marketing plan with clearly defined milestones to generate revenue and achieve profitability objectives;
In concert with the Board, design and implement the new family office entity structure; create internal processes/procedures and controls to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Family Office Practice; manage the P & L and budget for the Practice; drive analytics and measurement of success;
Determine the scope of family office services to be delivered directly and via outsource providers to clients, ranging from Finance & Accounting, Tax, Investments, Trust & Estate, Philanthropy, Family Governance and Education, Lifestyle Management and IT;
Build and lead the family office team and quarterback the delivery of integrated family office services to clients consistent with Bennett Thrasher’s core values and compliance standards while providing the highest level of client service; provide vision, direction and leadership to the team, creating a high performance, collaborative environment; ensure a ”service excellence” environment;
Manage the daily operations of the family office practice; direct and oversee staff and coordinate day-to-day project management and other activities; hire, develop coach and motivate staff to provide exceptional service to family office clients; develop and lead a client-centric, solutions-oriented culture;
Serve as the leader and senior spokesperson for BTFO; proactively build relationships in the market to develop and enhance the firm’s presence; effectively represent the vision, mission and values of Bennett Thrasher to clients, their advisors, prospective clients and centers of influence (COIs);
Lead marketing and business development initiatives to effectively brand and promote BTFO and overall firm capabilities to clients, prospects and centers of influence;
Proactively build relationships and collaborate with colleagues in all BT and BT Wealth Management practice areas; build mutual knowledge about one another’s expertise and service offerings and generate mutual referral opportunities;
Assume critical senior advisor and relationship management role with family office clients and effectively quarterback the delivery of all firm-wide family office related services to clients; proactively anticipate the needs and requests of family clients;
Synthesize, present and communicate financial and family office/wealth management concepts, needs and issues in a straightforward and easy to understand manner, utilizing a consultative approach; and,
Serve as a member of the BTFO Board; advise and inform the BTFO Board regarding significant client and market trends and issues on a proactive basis and recommend appropriate strategies/actions.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be highly regarded in the family office/wealth management market and will have well-established contacts and networks that afford access to prospective client referral sources and COIs. The individual will be an “expert generalist” and have broad knowledge across the disciplines of wealth management, including tax, accounting, financial management, trust and estate planning, investments, risk management, philanthropy, family governance and education. The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, relationship management, communication and consultative advisory skills. The individual will have the professional integrity and track record of success needed to build and lead BTFO and represent Bennett Thrasher positively in the community. The ideal background will include:
Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree highly preferred (MBA, JD); professional certifications highly desirable (CFP, CFA or CPA);
Minimum of fifteen years of relevant experience in the family office/wealth management industry, combined with demonstrated skills and experience in providing quality financial management and wealth advisory services to family office clients; prior experience building and/or leading a comparable business;
Knowledgeable about all areas of wealth management (tax, accounting, financial management, trust and estate planning, investments, risk management, philanthropy, family governance and education);
Prior experience working with/advising families of significant wealth; understands and can relate well to high net worth family clients and their needs and issues; highly proactive approach to serving client needs;
Strong relationship management and consultative advisory skills; excellent listening skills; able to effectively engage family members and generations; understands family dynamics and effectively facilitates family communication, family meetings and unity; provides objective advice and recommendations;
Demonstrated success in a leadership role managing multidisciplinary professionals and/or wealth management professionals;
Experienced in leading, building and driving growth for a family office/ wealth management business; knowledgeable about family office strategies, services and issues;
Highly effective in developing new business with clients who have net worth in excess of $100 million and in serving them as a trusted advisor;
Expert generalist and strategic thinker who effectively identifies/anticipates opportunities, needs and issues and makes appropriate decisions/recommendations; ability to “see the big picture” and execute what needs to be done to accomplish goals and objectives; strong business acumen and decision making skills; develops innovative solutions to meet client needs;
