Elite Daily is looking for an Associate News Editor to cover daily news and trending topics with an emphasis on viral news, cult-favorite product launches (think: Starbucks, Disney, etc.) social media platform updates, the newest memes, and more.
The ideal candidate is extremely creative, obsessed with internet culture, can’t refresh their Twitter feed fast enough, is well organized, and is able to handle multiple projects at once in a quick-paced, high-volume environment. The Associate News Editor will be responsible for managing a remote team of writers and will also work closely with other editors to plan for upcoming launches and events across a wide range of topics.
This is full-time position located at our New York City headquarters.
Manage a team of 3-5 writers
Assign and edit multiple stories a day for spelling, grammar, clarity, tone, factuality, structure, and more in a quick yet thorough method
Be on top of the latest food releases, app and tech news, iPhone rumors, Starbucks frappuccinos, and memes
Sweep the internet for relevant news that would appeal to the Elite Daily audience
Effectively package posts for our readership with enticing, clickable headlines and imagery
Ideate and brainstorm fresh angles and topic areas independently, as well as with a team
Reach out to, interview, and maintain a database of experts and sources for articles
1-2 years of experience in digital media and/or web-culture journalism
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong writing and editing skills
Ability to make quick decisions independently and communicate across several teams
Ability to multitask and understands the urgency of breaking news
Must be available to work weekend days (this position is still a five day work week)
A deep understanding of women's media and internet culture
Must be based in New York City
