Dispatch Train, Engine and Yard crews and other employees as needed. Assure prompt and courteous handling of Train, Engine, and Yard crew inquiries, requests and problems.
Adhere to labor agreement and computer assisted calling procedures. Work in a professional environment and handle multiple challenging internal customer interactions via phone, email and internal instant messaging. Coordinate work with corridor managers, train dispatchers and field managers under the supervision of a manager. Manage job vacancies and assign bulletins, including applications, assignments and yard markup, where applicable. Generate reports and maintain records and files as necessary. Other related duties as assigned. Deal in competing interests for available crew resources and to be willing to look for solutions to daily issues and to work as a member of a team Learn and recall new material and work methods. Assist in training employees in crew dispatch practices. De-escalate challenging customer service calls and ensure that issues are escalated where appropriate. Take ownership of challenging situations and works to find the optimal solution for UPRR and the individuals involved. Cooperate on requests for information from other departments on crew management services related questions.
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations. Must be able to read, understand, interpret and evaluate technical and non-technical written material to make decisions, answer questions, and provide input to others. Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner in order to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s). Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment test in English before being allowed to interview. Must be able to accurately record information on forms without clerical errors and prepare short concise documents. Must be able to learn and recall new material and work methods after a short or long period of time. Must be able to logically evaluate information to determine an appropriate course of action for resolving a problem. Strong multi-tasking skills are a necessity.
