Electronic controls focused design engineer will develop and maintain hardware and software design documentation for various cooking appliance platforms. The engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and testing of controls components for cooking appliances. The position requires a strong understanding of internal and external customer needs, quality and testing standards, and the ability to translate these requirements into cost effective and reliable controls solutions. The engineer will work with customers to define the design requirements for appliance controls. The engineer will collaborate with internal and external suppliers to develop control systems that meet these requirements. Testing, validation, and ongoing support of the controls components, throughout the product life cycle, are also primary responsibilities of the engineer.

Product documentation and requirements management

Lead requirements capture and definition, based on stakeholders’ needs
Lead reviews of requirements with stakeholders
Create schedules
Manage and maintain control system requirements and specifications
Create system schematics and mechanical drawings
Controls component and system development

Lead and support controls system design for new product development
Design and select controls components, including hardware, wire harnesses, and user interfaces (includes some mechanical design)
Define hardware and software functional requirements
Control system verification

Perform hardware, software, and control system verification
Write and manage test requirements
Conduct manual and automated verification/validation tests
Support and Troubleshooting

Support internal labs
Support customer service and field units
Regulatory Interaction

UL and Agency Approval
International Compliance Support
Required Skills

Knowledge of sensors, motors, heating elements, displays, and relays
Design and troubleshooting of electronic and electromechanical systems
C/C++ software development for embedded systems
Automated hardware and software testing practices
Experience with Embedded OS
Soldering, wire harness assembly, and electronics assembly
Use of multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and thermocouples
Preferred Skills

Requirements management software (Jama, Doors, or similar)
UL, CE, or other agency approvals
3D CAD software (Solidworks or similar)
PCB layout and simulation tools
