JOB SUMMARY:
Correct Care Solutions currently has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled psychiatric nurse practitioner to provide psychiatric assessment and treatment services to correctional facilities in Texas.
The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management for detainees referred by correctional staff and/or licensed health professionals who work on site at the facility. This position calls for services to be provided via telehealth by way of agency-provided, secure laptop, telehealth software, and electronic health record. Collaboration with other treatment staff (collaborating psychiatrist, licensed counselors/social workers, primary health treatment staff, nurses, etc) is another requirement of this position.
Most of your time will be spent in providing psychiatric assessment and medication management services, with ample time provided for paperwork and consultation with the collaborating psychiatrist and other relevant clinical staff. Some portion of time with this position will be providing assessment and/or treatment for detainees presenting with crisis-level behavioral health issues at the facility. Candidates who have availability to provide weekend coverage as part of their schedule are preferred. This position requires previous experience and skill in providing excellent care with minimal supervision. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide behavioral health medication management services within the scope and practice defined by the Louisiana Board of Nursing's Scope of Practice for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners.
2. Render, provide and facilitate behavioral health treatment services and other employment duties in a faithful, industrious manner, and to the very best of his/her skill, care, diligence and attention.
3. Work as a team member to collaborate and engage Family Solutions staff and management on matters that would improve quality of care, patient safety, patient comfort, overall patient experience, workplace efficiency, work conditions, work environment, employee safety, employee health, and communications by and among Family Solutions staff, teams, team members, and/or collateral personnel. This obligation includes the duty to initiate and engage in communications with Family Solutions staff, teams, team members and collateral personnel in a transparent and timely manner.
4. Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate effective and efficient treatment practices that will appropriately meet the needs of patients utilizing best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, appropriate accreditation standards, and applicable federal laws, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
5. Obtain comprehensive health histories, request special diagnostic and laboratory tests, interpret test results, and develop comprehensive psychiatric treatment plans.
6. Provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in identified areas; provide medication management for patients; and maintain appropriate health records.
7. Prescribe pharmaceutical therapy consistent with medical evaluation, treatment plan and current standards of practice.
8. Refer clients for more specialized or inpatient interventions as clinical situations dictate.
9. Participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment.
10. Maintain appropriate records; develop and follow through on treatment plans within organizational guidelines; and prepare reports on the clinical management of patients.
11. Maintain quality care through participation in peer review, policy development and quality improvement programs.
12. Ensure accurate and consistent use of encounter forms for all client contacts with behavioral health providers.
13. Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees.
14. Actively collaborate with collaborating psychiatrist on a regular basis.
15. Actively collaborate with detention center security and treatment staff to develop processes that ensure adherence to best care practices for patients.
16. Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two years of psychiatric treatment experience is preferred but is not a requirement. Experience in providing psychiatric treatment in correctional settings is a plus.
2. Previous experience assessing and providing medication management for patients with behavioral health disorders in a psychiatric or primary care setting. Experience with providing treatment via telehealth and/or in correctional settings is preferred.
3. Expert clinical judgment and the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role.
4. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict resolution.
5. Effective oral and written communication with staff, patients, and community providers.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Current State of Texas Nurse Practitioner License
2. Current State of Texas Nurse Specialty Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
3. Current certification in the State of Texas as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
4. Current national certification in Advanced Practice Nursing Specialty
5. Registered with the State of Texas for prescription writing privileges (managing controlled substances will NOT be a part of this position, so DEA registration is not required).
6. Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited nurse practitioner training program
7. Ability to pass a local criminal background check, as well as a National Provider Data Base check.
