GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the unit's nursing management and the Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, the Perioperative Tech performs duties to support the RN and Surgical Tech in the care of patients and in the preparation of surgical cases. Ensures quality and safe delivery of care to patients of all ages. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supplies a. Checks room for necessary equipment at the end of day: 2 arm boards, 2 stirrups and holders, ring stands, spinal table 1-2, electric surgical unit, Kendall Machine, large anesthesia table, medium or small table, clean suction bottles, trash and linen receptacles with bags, two kick buckets, 2 sitting stools and footstools. b. Assists technicians and nurses in gathering supplies and equipment for cases. c. Restocks supplies in individual OR’s with predetermined par levels and unsterile linen. d. Reports any deficiencies of stock in substerile areas and Surgical Core to Materials Coordinator or Specialty Charge Nurse and help restock when supplies are delivered. e. Picks up supplies from kitchen. 2. Cleaning a. Cleans rooms after procedure and at end of day. b. Helps remove dirty suction bottles and returns supplies and equipment to appropriate place. c. Cleans and maintains substerile area. d. Helps maintain break room. 3. Transport a. Assists CRNA or Circulating RN with transport of the patient from the holding area or SDC to and from the operating room and to PACU/floor at end of procedure as needed. b. Assists the RN with transfer of the patient to the operating room table as needed. c. Assists the RN with positioning the patient on the OR table as needed. d. Assists anesthesia with positioning patient for spinal anesthesia as needed. 4. Retrieves and Delivers a. Retrieves additional records, lab slips, or equipment. b. Delivers specimens to appropriate departments under nurse’s direction. 5. Equipment Maintenance a. Fills warmers with blankets, saline and water. b. Checks and records refrigerator temperature in Core and in small room off Core. c. Does diagnostics on steri units & stearn autoclaves daily and records.
