ABOUT MCKIM & CREED

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Human Resources and Employee Engagement will work closely with the executive team, managers and employee-owners to create an inclusive, high-performing culture at McKim & Creed. This person will be responsible for championing McKim & Creed’s employee-owned culture, building HR systems and processes which align with our five core values, as well as develop and execute strategies to recruit, engage, develop and retain top talent within the AEC industry.
The HR Director should be an experienced leader prepared to strategically scale the organization while maximizing employee engagement. You will oversee the following initiatives: talent acquisition, onboarding, learning and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance and offboarding.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
LEADERSHIP: Foster a values-driven, high-performing culture, creating and implementing strategies to engage and develop employees throughout their career. Advise the executive team on employee operation strategies, best practices and methodologies. Contribute to the monthly executive team meeting and strategic plan initiatives. Manage and lead diversity and inclusion initiatives.
HIRING, ONBOARDING, OFFBOARDING: Oversee and manage McKim & Creed’s hiring process, including, job requisitions, recruiting strategies, candidate interviews, offer letters, collection and documentation of new hire paperwork. Maximize the use of McKim & Creed’s applicant tracking system. Facilitate and manage the firm’s onboarding experience to ensure all new hires have a positive experience across our footprint. Oversee and manage the offboarding process, including, terminations and employee leave, as well as administer exit interviews. Develop, track and report key performance metrics to measure effectiveness.
CHANGE MANAGEMENT: Ensure smooth implementation and adoption of new processes, policies and procedures to support firmwide growth and initiatives. Provide expert guidance, communication and training of HR policies and stay current with the latest employee recruitment, engagement and retention trends and best practices. Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resources federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records, and representing the organization at hearings.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION: Partner with executive team and employees in support of McKim & Creed’s efforts to become a more diverse and inclusive firm.
EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT & RETENTION: Manage staff learning and development programs. Provide performance management guidance and feedback to managers. Collaborate with the executive team to develop training programs to ensure that managers are modeling McKim & Creed’s five core values and are developing high-performing teams.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Study and assess needs and trends; recommend benefit program modifications to management; direct the processing of benefit claims; obtain and evaluate benefit contract bids; award benefit contracts; and design and conduct educational programs on benefit programs. Collaborate with the executive team to manage McKim & Creed’s compensation and benefit plans and research and benchmark those plans to ensure McKim & Creed stays competitive within the market.
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS: Build trusting relationships with employees, develop effective systems for employees to safely raise concerns, resolve employee relations issues and effectively communicate resolutions quickly, and champion McKim & Creed’s unique employee-owned culture.

A bachelor’s degree and at least 15 years of HR experience, preferably in the engineering or surveying industry
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification required
Experience building a values-driven organization in which individuals and teams thrive
Proven success leading and implementing change management initiatives and special projects and/or programs simultaneously with the ability to meet multiple deadlines
Must be outgoing, energetic, organized and assertive
Ability to quickly get up to speed on company policies, procedures and databases and acquire an understanding of the company’s services, culture and employment opportunities
Experience integrating diversity and inclusion into HR practices and talent acquisition strategies
Demonstrated global and cultural awareness as well as expertise in immigration processes, laws, and regulations
Proven ability to build a high-performing team, influence others and build consensus
Aspires to help others be successful and has a strong customer service orientation
Experience coaching employees through under-performance, interpersonal conflict and various other employee relations issues
Expertise in relevant federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to EEO, FLSA, FMLA, AA, ADA, and OSHA
Driven to constantly improve systems and processes
Strong listener and problem solver
Microsoft Office and technologically proficient
Experience with UltiPro a plus
Some travel (10-15%) required
Willing to be flexible during work hours to accommodate teams who work early or late
Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record required
