Facebook designs, builds and operates one of the largest and fastest growing Content Delivery Networks in the world. The Edge Network team is responsible for egress capacity for all products, including Facebook Newsfeed, Live, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more. We are looking for the right person to lead a global team of talented network professionals to analyze FB's edge network and produce infrastructure build plans to meet future product needs. Our goals of enabling massive scalability, reliable serving, and fantastic performance are critical to put video at the heart of all our apps and services. Facebook is looking for someone passionate about leading great teams and using data to inform network infrastructure and software build plans. This is a highly collaborative role that will require working with many teams across network planning & engineering, CDN & product software engineering, technical program management, recruiting and more. Any day could include helping engineers understand the impact of their latest software deployments in markets and network conditions across the globe, working with network planners to visualize performance and reliability data to share with ISPs to help them improve their networks, or developing models to identify portions of the network where capacity constraints needs to be addressed. The responsibilities of the role are diverse and flexible, with opportunity to expand over time. This position is full time and will report to the Director of Edge Network and CDN.
Responsibilities
Responsible for hiring, managing, and continuous development of a highly technical global team of 5-10 direct reports planning for the Facebook Edge Network's build plans to meet capacity, performance targets.
Work cross-functionally with highly technical software and network infrastructure teams, understand their goals, and create tools and visualizations to get the right data in the hands of teams to make decisions.
Provide analysis and planning support to the infrastructure, data analytics and product teams to enable more efficient ISP partner engagements
Perform analysis across a large number of data sources to create a network strategy for capacities, locations and facilities
Work with various teams to understand the network, user base, performance constraints and growth requirements across all products.
Adapt and enhance existing models that characterize architectural guidelines, and influence future architectures
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of experience building, developing, and managing teams
Understanding of web technologies and internet infrastructure related to peering and content delivery networks
Demonstrated ability to lead teams providing practical insights from large data sets.
Understanding of statistics and optimization techniques.
Ability to communicate with multiple internal customers to collect relevant data and produce comprehensive analyses
Data analysis skills and the ability to communicate those results
Experience in demand forecasting, Monte Carlo simulations, network analysis, performance metrics and operations research for demand-based networks and server fleets.
Degree in an analytical field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Management Science).
5+ years of industry or graduate work experience.
5+ years of SQL experience.
3+ years of coding such as PHP, C, R, Python, etc.
