Your Role and Responsibilities
Position must be based at either our Raleigh, NC or Armonk, NY offices.
IBM Chief Information Security Office (CISO) is a global function responsible for keeping enterprise safe from cyberthreats and responsible for developing and implementing enterprise wide security programs.
Cybersecurity risk management function is part of CISO’s enterprise wide program that focuses on identifying and managing cybersecurity risks in key areas. The objective of the program is to develop a streamlined process for risk identification leveraging various security data sources, assess key problem areas, communicate and articulate risks to key stakeholders and remediate the risk to an acceptable level.
As a Data Scientist at IBM CISO Risk function, you will help transform our security data from various sources into meaningful insight by analyzing information, communicating outcomes and collaborating with security teams within and outside CISO organization. Work with Best in Class open source and visual tools, along with the most flexible and scalable deployment options. You will correlate the security data to identify patterns, abnormal trends that CISO need to prioritize.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Education in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Operations Research, Physics).
At least 2-3 years of experience in data analytics field
Coursework in mathematics, statistics, machine learning, and data mining
High level of comfort with various data types and structures: structured versus unstructured data, or static versus stream data.
Extensive prior experience in integrating data, profiling, validating and cleansing data.
Well versed/ good understanding of programming languages like Java/Python in order to generate derived data
Strong understanding of algorithms and advanced data structures
Outstanding interpersonal, communication and customer relationship skills
Multivariate statistical and machine learning algorithms, such as Principal Component Analysis, discriminant analysis, linear and logistic regression, k-nearest neighbors, classification and regression trees, neural networks, etc.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience of applying advanced analytics and predictive modeling techniques in IT or cybersecurity field
Extensive knowledge of and experience in applying data mining and machine learning techniques in a professional context
Proficiency in statistical tools like SAS, R, SPSS
Experience with Hadoop, MapReduce, PIG and relational databases and SQL
