The Surgical Waiting Room Coordinator serves as liaison between a patient’s family/support person, operating room staff, nurses, anesthesiologist, and surgeon. The Coordinator proactively welcomes and orients visitors, assists people in locating their destination through effective utilization of a Lobby Greeter, obtains and dispenses information with families, and ensures comfort amenities are readily available for guests of the Surgical Waiting Room. The position facilitates timely coordination of information regarding surgical services of a Meriter patient (pre-op, operating room, post-op, and consultation) with family members to ensure a positive surgical experience and favorable impression of Meriter’s coordination of medical services. The patient status updates that are shared with family/support person(s) must be accurate and timely and greatly influence customer and physician satisfaction. Providing social and emotional support to family/support person(s) is essential to the role of a SWR Coordinator. The Coordinator also has principle responsibilities of training and directing meaningful activities for the student and adult volunteers in the Surgical Waiting area.

~Exceptional customer service skills, including interacting with patients and family members
~1-3 years of customer service and/or hospitality experience
~Knowledge of medical terminology and hospitality services
~Prior healthcare experience
