Full Job Description
Part Time Financial Controller – Wingbrace LLC Wingbrace, a privately held government contractor based in Greater Boston, is looking for a Financial Controller to help administer the company’s financial operations. The Controller will report to the Chief Operations Officer and brief the management team directly. S/he will be involved in the planning and execution of financial strategy and ensure that the company’s growing receipts are agilely managed. The successful Wingbrace Controller will have had experience in the management of financial operations for a technology or consulting organization. Conventional controller responsibilities are expected to make up the core of the role, with expanding positions in corporate strategy. The selected candidate will also be an advocate of team development, training, documentation, and lean initiatives. This position is objectively expected to expand to full-time and result in increasing responsibilities.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, s/he will be accountable for management of full general ledger accounting functions, financial reporting, contracts management, pricing proposals, financial planning, analyzing data, conducting statistical analysis, updating policy and procedures, and performing record-keeping functions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide all aspects of the accounting process including AP/AR, General Ledger, Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Management to ensure GAAP compliance.
Work with the Executive Management team in financial reporting for accuracy and timeliness, including all journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and reserve analysis.
Complete 15-day monthly closing of books with accurate and timely financials provided to management monthly.
Perform variance analysis and trend information related to revenues and expenses and cash flow.
Interface with program management on a regular basis, across numerous programs, to ensure all invoices and payroll are accurate and reported in a timely manner.
Provide required documentation to external auditors and tax preparers.
Provide estimating, pricing, and negotiation support for the various contract opportunities.
Provide support to government accounting and pricing departments, as necessary, to support customer requests for information.
Plan, develop, and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure FAR and GAAP compliance.
Analyze and monitor the integrity of the internal financial controls in conjunction with staff, management, and outside auditors/accountants to improve the Company’s processes and accommodate significant growth.
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, financial management business, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Master’s degree and/or CPA certification a plus
Experience in financial management, strategic planning, budget analysis and development, and account management
Experience with cost accounting and government regulations and government contracts
Knowledge of Government contracting procedures and Federal regulations
Experience with a fast-growing company / start-up
The ideal candidate has worked at or with early-stage start-ups and has a passion for helping companies scale and grow
Proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel, and timekeeping systems
Able to display excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and independently manage multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting deadlines; plan and develop meaningful objectives
Excellent interpersonal skills to create effective collaborations among various levels of staff.
Work in a team environment
Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work under pressure
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to understand and work with deferred revenue.
Listen intently and ask good questions by truly hearing what people are saying and respecting their thoughts, ideas, and concerns.
Energetic, efficient, and agile, proven ability to management multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
