TELECOMMUNICATIONS PLANNER / WALKOUTS
Determines and designs service routes for telecommunications fiber optic and coaxial cable for residential and commercial applications using sketches, plans, written and verbal instructions. Coordinates and executes surveys which include taking measurements, identifying existing devices and equipment. Uploads field notes and develops the scope of work and cost sheets for construction.
Tracks jobs according to company procedures
Understand and apply fiber and coaxial design specifications
Review proposed design considerations for feasibility as well as future growth and serviceability
Obtains necessary permits (pole, railroad, TXDoT), easements, and right of way for service routes
Identifies and verifies existing underground utilities
Considers all contributing factors when completing make readys
Interact with clients, utilities, municipalities, residential and commercial customers
Accurately tracks time spent on jobs, the mileage and materials needed to perform duties
Follow general safety guidelines and wear appropriate PPE

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Take accurate notes involving numbers
Able to use a measuring device and understand units of measure
Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially excel
Ability to communicate and write effectively
General understanding of overhead and underground transmission and distribution construction standards, techniques, methods, equipment, and materials
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license
Work is performed both in indoor and outdoor environments. The position largely operates in a professional office setting with routine use of office equipment; however, some exposure to extreme weather conditions/temperatures may be encountered when visiting job sites.
The position requires manual dexterity, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, sitting for extended periods, and crouching. The employee will occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 70 pounds. Requires the ability to hear, speak, and/or signal people to convey potential or actual safety hazards and exchange information to include receiving assignments or direction from co-workers and supervisors.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional overtime may be required as jobs demand.
There is no anticipated overnight travel for this position. Some local day travel will be required.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years’ previous experience in a telecommunication, CATV, construction, surveying, or electrical background
Preferred Education and Experience
3 to 4 years’ experience working for a utility, construction, or electrical engineering or telecommunications company
Previous OSP experience
